I have the Menubar icon back now. But for this I had to switch from ActiveState Python to ApplePython. Some work-arounds are needed because ApplePython isn't as polished as ActiveState's. Some updates. It looks like the PyObjC problems is (partially) caused by a mixup of Apple Python and ActiveState Python. PyObjC as supported by Apple Python (2.6 on SL and 2.7 on Lion) works.
