The problem is, extensions don't say much. I've had a bunch of downloads that were avi's as extension, but trying to play them with f.ex. VLC didn't work. Inspecting them with ffprobe told me it wasn't much of a video at all. Not sure about the intent of the uploader, but I'd like to weed these out ...

Having had some trouble lately with posts that contain invalid video files (either with Codec virusses or without) I was thinking that one possible solution would be hooking up ffmpeg/ffprobe in a post processing script. If that can't determine the container/codecs in use, ditch the download. Has an...

Has anyone tried using ffmpeg/ffprobe to fail on video's with bogus content? (As they seem to happen more and more often these days)
