Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
Have you set it up as a download/media server? Is that working well? Or are you suffering from the low lan speed?

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
I just saw that, was going to post it here too.
How are you doing with your U2? Have you set it up yet?

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
I never really thought about a USB-Ethernet adapter, but it certaily looks like a good solution. This probably decides it for me as well and I'll go for the U2. I don't think I will buy the adapter right off the bat though, but it's comforting to know that there is a way to increase network performa...

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
buffhr, thanks for your input. My current setup is an old Acer Aspire 1960, which has a Intel Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz) and 512MB RAM. Download folder is on the internal HDD, the final folder is on a USB2.0 external HDD. The logs in SAB tell me that it spends 4:44 unpacking a 2.7 GB file and 2:45 unpa...

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
Yeah, same with me. I keep looking for better specs until I decide it's too expensive and then I think I probably don't even need all that performance and start over at the bottom... I read that too and it worried me. But I think that might have been before the HW acc. drivers were out. In this yout...

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
I saw the Nitrogen6X too. Would be a nice board, but even without the case its a lot more expensive than what I had planned. Including the case and the 2GB RAM upgrade (which would basically give you a Wandboard with a quad core CPU and 2GB RAM or a U2 with Gbit LAN) it would run you $300 + shipping...

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
Looking at different stores it looks like the sabre light would cost me more than twice that of a Wandboard. I would like it if the board I purchase had some good community support, so I feel like the Wandboard or the U2 would be better in that respect. Another option would be the UDOO . Quad core A...

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
Yeah, if the U2 had Gbit LAN the case would be clear. The one you link to looks good on paper but, as you said, no community and it's also quite a bit more expensive. To be honest, I think the Wandboard will do just fine for your needs. The quad core would be nice to have, but if network speed is im...

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
Well the wandboard will definitely be faster than your current set up. What do you need to transfer from the wandboard/U2? Media to the RPi would be limited to 100Mb/s and printing doesn't need that much bandwidth, does it? Do you also want to use it as a fileserver inside the LAN?

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
I have to confess that I haven't gotten any further since three months ago. I haven't purchased any device. I did do some testing on the RPi with unraring and found that it was faster than what I expected (although I don't remember any specific numbers). So maybe the next step should be to see how w...

Re: Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
SlackMaster, thanks for the reply. I guess you're right, the RPi woudn't benefit from the faster port. Using it as a fileserver, though, I could take advantage of it by accessing a smb drive from my laptop. Although I guess if I want to run all of that through OwnCloud it would always take a round t...

Usenet server: Wandboard vs Odroid-U2
Hi everybody! I was hoping you could give me some advice. I'm planning on buying a new low-cost device to run all my usenet and other server related stuff on. Namely sabnzbd+, sickbeard, couchpotato, headphones, owncloud (i have a RasperryPi with XBMC on it to watch the downloaded stuff, but I might...
