If you are doing a rewrite anyway, please add a scheduler instead of the timer. This allows better control over when to check for new nzb's.

But the problem with that is that it requires sickbeard, which seems to be a bit sluggish on mu nas and provides lots of other stuff I don't need.

The problem was that I didn't realize the nzbmatrix.txt file is not just a commentary file but it's used by sabnzbd and therefore had not placed it where sabnzbd looked for it.  Maybe you should call the file .ini or something to avoid confu...
