A large portion of that article was cribbed from my original usenet megathread at Something Awful, but it's ok, because he cites said thread.

Still waiting to see what our SF.net stats look like over the next couple days.

By the way: is there a roadmap or something like that for SABnzbd? It would be very interesting to know what's (and when) coming

It isn't too useful, but you can look here: http://trac2.assembla.com/SABnzbd/roadmap

Features for 0.6 are not currently set in stone.

EDIT: Fixed wrong link.

I'm not totally sure, but switch may have meant to refer to either this "What's New in 0.5" document I wrote, or this auto-generated list of closed tickets for 0.5.

And yeah, we haven't really started on a list of ideas for 0.6, but two things currently in the running are a config system rewrite and a plugin system.

sf.net stats don't get updated for two days, but here's showing weekend stats. Compare to the past two months.

That's odd, I wouldn't have expected the peak to be a day later. Very interesting :)

As someone utterly in the dark about how great usenet is, I'm glad I came across that article--it encouraged me to sign up for a usenet provider and start using sabnzbd.  I hadn't a clue of what to make of the whole usenet scene before, and I've been sick and tired of my ISP throttling my bittorrent traffic down to 30kb/sec most of the day.

So for me, the article was great--but what do established users think about it?  It certainly brings usenet to the attention of people like me who were curious but didn't know how to go about it.  But what about the potential negative attention it could bring?  Anyone concerned about that?

What kind of negative attention could you be referring to? Torrents are extraordinarily popular and that attention is nothing but good for the file sharing community - barring pathetic attempts to scare people away from using it haha. As usenet gets more popular there'll be better competition between the providers and we'll get better services/lower prices - I think. :)
