Hi first thanks for looking at my thread. I'm new to use net and I love it. Everything is so much faster that P2P. My question is; is there anyway to speed up my downloads. With P2P you could open up a specific port within your router to speed up downloads. Is there anything similar on usenet? I ask because my ISP claim 30mb download speeds and I'm nowhere near that as a matter of fact I'm running at 10% of that. Is this normal what download speeds are some people getting. Thanks for you help

It depends solely on your Usenet provider and your ISP. Opening ports allows you to find more peers increasing your download speed, but Usenet is a 1 to 1 connection; in other words, the data comes from your Usenet provider only, so only their speed to your computer is what matters. I'd run a download speed test from speedtest.net to make sure you are getting advertised speed from your ISP. If so, complain to your Usenet provider or find a new one with better speed, if not, complain to your ISP or find a new one.
If your usenet provider offers multiple server locations, try and pick the one closest to you for the best speed.

You may need to use more "connections" in the server settings.
Many Usenet providers allow you to use parallel connections (up to a limit) to speed up download.
Also, your system should be a bit "modern" and fast to get proper speeds.
Although even a Pentium III will allow you go go upto 3-4 MByte/second.
