can .5 alpha version co-exist with .4.12 on same system

Post by wally007 »

title says it all ... i have rock solid .4.12 version running and would like to leave it alone so my girlfriends episodes get downloaded but i'd love to play around with .5Alpha version and troublshoot the new features. I know i will have to use different port but can they co-exist ? If it helps i'm on Leopard and Windows XP ( yea i dont update OS too often :-) )

Yes you can.
You will have to start SABnzbd 0.5.0 with a modified shortcut, which reads:
"c:\program files\SABnzbd\SABnzbd.exe" -f d:\MYSPACE

This way SABnzbd will create a folder d:\MYSPACE where it will store all folders.
You can modify those folders through the GUI.

THe other thing you have to keep in mind is not to let the two SABnzbd download
at the same time. The program is capable doing that, but the
number of connections to your Usenet provider will be become too large.

Just to confirm, you can use 0.4.x and 0.5.x versions of SABnzbd with the same settings and cache when run separately (i.e. don't run both at the same time - even on different ports. Specify a different cache/settings location with -f if you want to use two instances of sabnzbd at once). However both use different versions of the queue and history, so any queue/history items in 0.4.x won't be shared with 0.5 and the other way around, you would have to add them again into 0.5.

i've posted a simple python script that will sync the queues if you want to.  I think it was in the alpha 4 thread.
