Problem with SABnzbd, can't see web interface

This morning  I got this message:

Welcome to SABnzbd.exe 0.4.11

SABnzbd is not compatible with some software firewalls.


Sorry, but we cannot solve this incompatibility right now.
Please file a complaint at your firewall supplier.

I have the Firewall off!

The point is that all of this WAS working with the way things I had setup.

Ok this is weird...

In my frustration I went back to the setup.ini and changed it back to "localhost" from 0.0.0.0 and it worked!!

Now all I need to do is turn my Firewall back on and see if it goes back to normal operation...like it had been.

Basically I'm having the same issue.  The Sabnzbd.exe process is running but I can't see the web interface.  I've edited the ini file to 0.0.0.0 and still no luck.

Oddly enough, after I edited the ini file Win7 asked me if I wanted to create an exception in the firewall for it (I said yes) and it still doesn't work.

Problem: Loss of web interface with no particular reason for the loss. Everything was working and it just stopped.

Mine is now working...I am sorry I cannot tell you why. There is no explanation I can think of on my end.  My setup hasn't changed in anyway the oinly thing I did between working and not working was use my browser (Opera V10)


Here's is the sequence I went through, I'm not sure if this helps but it might.

1) Sabnzbd web interface stopped working.
2) I came to forums and searched and found this thread.
3) I went to the WiKI and followed the instructions - still no web interface.
4) Task manager show it running as a process.
5) Backed up my old User Data directory.
6) Did clean install of 0.4.11 (same as what was working before)
7) No change - still no web interface
Turned off Firewalls because I was no desperate to find at least something.
7) Sabnzbd reported software could not start because it was not compatable with Firewall software.  (SABNZBD response error)
Messed around with configurations of ports and logins as suggested - No joy
9)Finally as I thought I'd have to go back to using Newzbin for dloads I went back to setup.ini and changed it back from 0.0.0.0 to localhost and it started working.
10) I switched my Firewall back on and it still worked.
11) Have left it running all day and I came home it was still working.

So your guess is as good as mine - Step 9 was significant - however I cant be sure that step 8 didnt do something along the line.

I'm so pleased I got it up and running as SABNZBD is a great utility and I thank the Devs for producing it..it really is useful. Thanks to Shypike for the quick responses I really appreciated that.

So I'm a happy bunny but I can't explain why...I'll keep my fingers crossed it doesn't happen again anytime soon.

It's indeed strange.
I have tested Comodo with SABnzbd and it worked, I never got it working with ZoneAlarm.
Personally I don't bother any more with firewalls (except the Windows's built-in one).
They cause more pain than they solve.
It's very easy to give the firewall the wrong answer when it pops up another question.
The difficulty is in correcting your answer.
So when you once refuse SABnzbd, it a puzzle to find it in the firewall configuration.

Jeez now I'm having this problem. Everything has been working great until today. Basically I'm having the exact same issues as the others in this thread, I can get to the login page but when I hit the log in button it wont open the web UI. I tried all the suggestions in this thread and none of them worked.

edit: works with IE but not with FF so it doesn't seem like a firewall or router issue, more like FF specific... any ideas?

Some versions of FF have problems with localhost.
Try the hostname, an empty hostname or 0.0.0.0.
You can change it using IE.
After that restart SABnzbd.

Yeah I just realized I didn't have this problem until I updated to the latest version of firefox a couple days ago. I tried hostname, an empty hostname and 0.0.0.0 restarting sabnzbd each time (tried rebooting as well) and nothing seems to work. The only thing I haven't tried yet is reinstalling SABnzbd. It is still running in the background and downloading my feeds and such, I just cant get to the web ui unless I use IE.  Maybe I'll try the beta version, I'm still using 0.4.12, not sure if that will make any difference.

I'm running FF 3.5.6 on a Win7-64 bit system and using 'localhost', without any problems.
There must be some issue with your system too.

There are a lot of differences between 0.4.12 and 0.5.0,
also in the web server area.
There have always been issues with localhost, mainly caused by the inconsistent
way many system resolve that address to an IP address.

BTW: You can also use 127.0.0.1 as address, that should work fine on any system.

Same problem. First time using usenet. Followed a tutorial to purchase server and set up sab. Was working fine with Chromium (windows) all day until reboot. Now sab runs (idle) but web interface doesn't show. IE launched with sab asking me to put details in but there was a warning saying it wasn't secure so I closed it instead. It seems that sab is somehow associated with IE and not chromium and that's why it's not working How can I re-associate it to launch Chromium instead of IE (which I never use)? Thank you

OK, fixed it. I installed SabConnect++ and ran sab first, then connect++, it complained about an API key. I closed it and ran sab again and now it's all working as normal (although sabconnect++ still doesn't work and asks for an API key)

Every app needs the API key to communicate with SABnzbd.
What kind of host address did you enter?
