how to install "sab 0.5 beta 6" onto freenas 0.7
Hi all,
I am having trouble with version 0.4.12 and freenas box 0.7.1.
It freezes after 20/30 minutes.
Also it makes freenas unresponsive and very slow.
My freenas box: pentium III/800MHz 256MB RAM
So, I would like to upgrade to the newer version 0.5 beta 6 to see if it solves the problem.
Is there any tutorial/'how to' that explain how to manual install the new version in freenas?
thanks

Re: how to install "sab 0.5 beta 6" onto freenas 0.7
First make sure you don't use SABnzbd's memory cache.
SABnzbd is quite a strain on smaller systems.
If you have 0.4.12 running, you will have all prerequisites available.
Just download an 0.5.0 tarball (the *.tar.gz file), unpack it
at an appropriate place and start SABnzbd.py.

Thanks for your reply!
How can I check if I am using it?
I have also tried 0.4.12 with Python 2.5 also.
What is the best upgrade path?
thanks
Sorry. I don't understand. What is the memory cache?shypike wrote: First make sure you don't use SABnzbd's memory cache.

Sorry I have now 0.4.8 and Python 2.5.shypike wrote: If you have 0.4.12 running, you will have all prerequisites available.

Memory csche is set in Config->General Tuning section.
Like I said just unpack the tar.gz file and go.

Re: how to install "sab 0.5 beta 6" onto freenas 0.7
hi,
I managed to install version 0.5 beta6 and it works much better than the previous version.
But I have the folllowing problem now:
during the download, every 20 minutes the web gui interface of the server hangs for about 5 minutes:
- the download stops;
- there is no response from the web gui of SABnbzb
- and there is no response from the web gui of the server itself (freenas).
- Also, no response from putty or WinSCP remotely.
But the server is running, infact if I go in the console of the server itself, I can work with it: typing TOP I can see the python process running with 0% of CPU usage.
After these 5 minutes, the web guis of the server come back again and the download resumes.
It hhappens only during the download.
What could it be?
Could it be that the memory of the server is too low?
thanks for any help.

Re: how to install "sab 0.5 beta 6" onto freenas 0.7
If you download relatively large jobs
say 10+ G, you will be hit by the inefficient way
SABnzbd saves its internal administration to disk.
The next release will contain a work-around for that.
I'm not sure if you are really affected by this,
but it could very well be.

Hi,
it was a 9gb job, with Another 19 gb job in the queue.
Do you have a forecast regarding the date when the update will be ready :-)

About a week, maybe two.

is there a workaround, in the meantime?
I mean, like queing smaller .nzb or few files each time?
Re: how to install "sab 0.5 beta 6" onto freenas 0.7
There's a hidden option in the sabnzbd.ini file in Beta6.
It's called save_interval.
Set it to 600 for 10 minutes between saves, that should help.
The final version will determine this automatically.

I tried to change the setting save_interval, but it did not work: every 10-20 minutes the system hangs as described in the previous posts.
Any idea?
Any log to analyze?
rgs,
Re: how to install "sab 0.5 beta 6" onto freenas 0.7
Does the "freeze" coincide with the interval.
SABnzbd still needs to save its data, only less frequently.
Actually when I read your email again, I have second thoughts.
You say CPU usage is near 0, but that the web interface is dead.
Odd, because the problem I described stops the downloading
due to a semaphore being locked during saving (to have consistent data).
It doesn't stop the other parts of SABnzbd.
Low memory could be an issue, if the OS starts swapping.
How much memory does your system have?

thanks for your reply.
My system has 256MB.
I have disabled now all the services and before starting SABnzbd it had 93MB free.
Then, after starting SABnzbd, in few minutes the memory drops to 336KB and then it freezes.
I have a swap disk but for some reason it's not being used.
How much memory does SABnzbd need to run?
thanks
Re: how to install "sab 0.5 beta 6" onto freenas 0.7
I did some more testing.
I started with 150MB free, disabling every possible service.
But as soon as I start SABnzbd, the memory drops to few hundreds KB and soon after the system freezes.
The jobs in the queue are two NZB that should download a total of 30GB of data.
Resuming: my CPU is a Pentium III 800MHz with 256MB RAM.
1 SATA disk + 2 PATA disks.
What should be the memory usage of SABnzbd?
regards,
