stuck with a verifying download.

Post by tedrock »

Version: 0.5.0 RC3
OS: Windows 7
Install-type: Windows Installer
Skin (if applicable): smpl black
Firewall Software: n/a
Are you using IPV6? n/a
Is the issue reproducible? possibly

Can't delete/cancel/remove a failed download. I have movie that failed to verify because there was not enough blocks and it's just stuck on Verifying. It doesn't go away when I delete all. If I try to shut down or restart SAB the page just sits there trying to load. I force quit the process and the PAR2 process that was running but it's still locked in the verifying state after relaunch.

EDIT: I was able to get it to switch to failed by leaving the SAB process running but killed the PAR2 prcoess.

If this happens regularly, you might want to start using
the older single-core par2-classic.
We have the impression that the multi-core version is very
easily disturbed by memory that's "on the edge".
(Or just buggy, but we have no hard evidence).
Just remove the two par2.exe files in the sub folders of SABnzbd.

Other than that the release after 0.5.0 will concentrate on
queue reliability and ways to clean out unwilling jobs.
We cannot prevent hanging jobs as such because par2 and unrar
are programs outside our control.

BTW: killing the par2 process is the only proper way to
"solve" this problem. Anything else might damage your queue.
So, you found the right way.

Got the same problem.
I renamed the extension of both par2.exe's but sabnzbd failed files which need repairing.
I got the following error:
[Error 2] Het systeem kan het opgegeven bestand niet vinden
Translation: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified

Maybe I should rename the par2-classic.exe to par2.exe?

Any fixes on the par2-bug?

Also when a download fails, par2 files are deleted :S
So I have to manually download par2 files again to repair the download manually.

Yes, copy par2-classic.exe over par2.exe and x64\par2.exe. Sorry about that.
Do make sure that you have no par options set in Config->Switches.

par2 files are not deleted when verification fails.
You may think so for this case.
The smallest par2 is always downloaded, more only when needed.
This mechanism was disturbed by the missing par2.exe

About the quality of par2-multi-core:
We have no solid evidence for it being buggy, many people run
it without any problem. Our conclusion is that either there is
a bug in par2 or it is very good at exposing hardware that's
only marginally OK.

well even on a failed download, par2 files are deleted. I have to download the par2 files and run quickpar manually to fix the download.
I've had it on several downloads with the original par2.exe's. A friend of mine had these issue's aswell.
