After upgrading Microsoft security essentials and having to do a reboot, I am greeted with the message:

Please see the sabnzbd (x86) log file bla bla

What is going on here? What could be the likely culprit? Sabnzbd was working perfectly prior to that last restart (i installed Lightroom, updated some windows apps, and then upgraded Microsoft Sec. Ess. before the restart).

Looks like the internal webserver has trouble with HTTPS (SSL).
Did you check your firewall software?
Disable HTTPS and try again.

Tnx for the reply.

How do I disable SSL if the program won't start up?

Edit the sabnzbd.ini file directly.
Look for "enable_https".

Very strange.
I don't test https very often, but on my Windows 7 x64 with MS Security Essentials and all patches, it just works.

Sorry for the belated reply, but I formatted my windows installation (manually backed up the sabznd settings folder, you should make it a little easier to move installations around but I guess that the current way is probably the best way) and reinstalled it. Now it works.

When I retraced my steps, I just finished installing a certain unrelated program which required fiddling with the hosts file. Most likely this made sabnzbd not able to startup anymore.

Needless to say, post-reinstall everything has been working sublimely, but I have not attempted to install that certain unrelated program again. When my new hard disk is in, I will be doing some imaging and trying again.
