HELP - Install SABnzbd on Windows Server 2008 Standard

Post by hardness »

I upgraded my system from Windows Home Server (WHS) to Windows Server 2008. I tried to install SABnzbd (0.5.3) however when the wizard starts I get to the page where I input the server details, I run test connection and the response I get is "'NoneType' object is unsubscriptable". So I decide to finish the wizard however when I get to the last page and SABnzbd restarts it gives me the option to "Go To SABnzbd". I click it and the wizard starts all over. It always goes in a loop.

Any recommendations?

The most likely cause is a incorrect DNS setup.
A workaround may be to manually edit the [server] section in the sabnzbd.ini file.
Add your server settings like this:

Code: Select all

[servers]
[[my.server.com::119]]
username = username
enable = 1
name = my.server.com:119
fillserver = 0
connections = 4
ssl = 0
host = my.server.com
timeout = 120
password = password
optional = 0
port = 119

I tried what you said and it helped me to get past the wizard stage.

However I am still unable to connect to my server. I still get the "'NoneType' object is unsubscriptable" message. I think this problem has to do with my server firewall. I will update when I remedy this.

What happens when you use the numerical IP address of your Usenet server instead?

I have the latest SAB working perfectly with Windows 2008 Server R2.

When installing SAB, did you make sure to right click it and select "Run as Administrator"? It went through the wizard flawlessly for me. Perhaps try installing the latest service pack + window updates?

Hey hardness,
I just updated my HP ex490 (it's a windows home server) from the standard WHS installation to Windows Server 2008.
I installed Sabnzbd and had the same problem. I was just fiddling with the program then and tried the workaround with editing the ini file.
After trying to download, I noticed the error message about being unable to connect to the host.
So what I tried next was pinging my Usenet host from my 2008 server... and I get unable to resolve host!
So, I pinged the server from my computer, copied/pasted the IP address into where the server name goes and there we go!
I'm now downloading an nzb from NzbMatrix.
Hope this helps
