networking help for 2 computers

Post by rsxrcr »

Hello,

I have a basic understanding of networking... but I'm trying to familiarize myself with everything still.

My goal is to have my sabnzbd running on main computer all the time. Also, I want it so that I can start sabnzbd on my laptop and the page that comes up is the same page that I would see if I were looking at my main computers queue screen (all the things I've started downloading at home on my main computer).

My problem is, I'm not getting or understanding how the server stuff works. I know how to port forward stuff I just don't know how to set it so I can get it how I want it.

so for example. my IP at home is 1.2.3.4 My local IP of the serving computer if needed is 192.168.0.2

I'm on the SABnzbd Web Server place... now what?

Oh, and I've seen the post that was posted maybe 5 posts behind me... thought I'd get a more elaborate explanation with a new post.

You should run SABnzbd only on your main computer.
SABnzbd in fact has it's own web server, so you can control it from
any computer within your home network.
On the main computer you set the so-called "host address" on Config->General to 0.0.0.0
and restart SABnzbd.
Then you have to tell the software firewall (assuming you have one) on your main computer to allow
SABnzbd to communicate with other computers.

There's no need to install SABnzbd on the laptop.
Just tell your browser to go to http://192.168.0.2:8080/sabnzbd and you'll see the SABnzbd user interface.
