For some reason, one of my Newzbin RSS feeds last night pulled down about 800 random entries. By the time I noticed, it had downloaded about 90 tv shows with a lot more to go. There was about 2TB of stuff queued up. If I wasn't at home and didn't notice, my ISP would probably have shut me off for excessive downloading.
I would like a feature that would auto-pause the queue when a RSS feed pulls in x number of entries and also have it email a notice if the email notification section is configured.
Thanks for your consideration.
Auto-Pause if too many entries added from RSS feed
Re: Auto-Pause if too many entries added from RSS feed
I had this EXACT thing happen to me. The weirdest part was that everything added to my queue wasn't thing I had added in my search for the RSS feed. Most of it was just queued up, but some stuff was set to force download (I have 3 or 4 feeds like this). I don't know if this was some one off with newzbin or not, but this feature would be really nice.
Re: Auto-Pause if too many entries added from RSS feed
Yea, I'm sure it was a mistake on Newzbin's system that was creating the RSS feed. None of the queued entries were anything I wished and they all came thru on a single RSS feed. The feed is proper now but this kind of safety measure would be great if something like it ever happens again.
A similar example that I see once in a while is that I have a feed for a TV show and someone posts all episodes from a much earlier season. All (20-24) episodes are then added to the queue. Sure I could setup reject filters but then I need to remember to update it every season, which I might do anyways. This feature would help for the times when the filters are not very extensive.
Perhaps, instead of pausing the entire queue, could it pause all the entries just from the RSS feed that triggered it?
Thanks

Release 0.6.0 will have the option to set priority "paused" for
each feed or individual filter.
each feed or individual filter.
Re: Auto-Pause if too many entries added from RSS feed
Ok that will be a nice option but how would that help in this situation? Is there a filter option or regular expression to count the feed results that would trigger the pause option?
Re: Auto-Pause if too many entries added from RSS feed
via a user script might work.
This would only be for a single RSS feed query, not a count for all feeds in during a scheduled query session cause that could be a lot of results. In my original problem, all 800 entries came from a single (broken) feed query.
This isn't something that would happen often. It is more of a safety measure so that hundreds of entries are not downloaded. If someone were to set it really low like 5 then yes that could be a problem. I think 20 would be a minimum limit.
