SABnzbd+ always missing parts of download

I love SABnzbd+ but it always seems to be missing parts of a download.  Typically the par2 files are able to fix it so no big deal but lately I'm finding more and more that SAB isnt coming close to downloading all the parts.  Today out of a source count block of 2004, I need 1134 more for par2 to repair.  If I understand that correctly, I have less than half of the download.

So I pulled Newzbin out of retirement and it downloaded the same files perfectly with the same nzb.  Not one missing part.

I've tried this with Avast off and I have the same issue. I can retry it but the missing blocks change and it seems to be worse on older nzb's which would make sense except newzbin has no problem.  I have the nzb and log file ready to submit to bugs@ but I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction here on the forum before (or maybe while) I submit the logs.

How do you manage to download with newzbin?
That's an indexing site.
Which Usenet provider do you have?
Please send me the NZBs (Bugs at sabnzbd.org).

BTW: are you sure the NZB doesn't contain duplicate articles
for the same file parts.
That happens sometimes on some indexers.
SABnzbd always picks the first of the duplicate articles,
if another downloader software picks the other ones it might be more successful.
The other way around is also possible, but you wouldn't notice that.

I dont see duplicate articles, but I'm not 100% sure there aren't.  I just send the logs and nzb to you, hopefully I didnt do something embarrassingly stupid.

I received your files.
Downloading from GigaNews is OK.
There are no duplicates.

The logging says that articles are missing.
The log line is produced by a very specific part of the code that
only runs when one of three errors is received from the server: 411, 423 or 430.
This means that SABnzbd receives a refusal from the server.
Unfortunately the actual number isn't logged
The meaning is:
  411 no such news group
  423 no such article number in this group
  430 no such article found

The only remaining issue that I can think of is that Usenetnow is one of the rare
servers that needs the Usenet group to be sent first.
There is a on option for that in Config->Switches and it's called "Send Group".
Maybe you can give that a try?

I made the change in config but still missing 184 blocks in par2.  I doubt the change made the difference, this is just how it usually works - different missing parts every time.  The 1100+ missing blocks earlier was the worst I'd seen.

Tried two more times, the first one needed only 8 more blocks for repair, the second was successful.

Use Usenetnow's Euro servers in conjunction with their USA servers.
Enter one of them as a "backup" server in SABnzbd Server Config.

this is an excellent idea!  My dad occasionally uses my account to browse history books so I've set him up on the eu server but I see in SABnzbd I can easily check or uncheck the enable box when needed.

I made a change since yesterday, changing the ssl port from 563 to 5563.  Its hard to imagine that fixing my problem but since then I've completed the problematic nzb twice without issue.  Under "Latest Warnings" it only shows one missing part.

I've continued to test using the same nzb I had a massive problem with a few days ago.  The last three times the download has completed and there have been no missing parts.  The only thing I changed was the port from 563 to 5563 and both are listed on usenetnow's website.  For now I am going to assume everything works but if things go nuts again I'll be back.
