Suggestions for a good USENET provider

Post by naviathan »

I'm using astraweb, but it seems they're deleting what I'll call the important downloads for my media center. Does anyone know of any USENET providers that don't sway to the whims of Hollywood?

Free: xsnews via IPv6. Test if you have IPv6 via http://www.appelboor.com/ipv6.html and/or http://test-ipv6.com/

If not: 2.50 Euro per month: http://www.lightningusenet.com/

I have been using astrweb for about a year now.  I have not seen any problems downloading "important media center" files.  The only difference I see after switching from GigaNews is my bill is halve of what it was.

I'm trying out newshost right now and it appears to be working better.  I'm not sure how sensitive this forum is, but I've had downloads of certain movies stop right in the middle of the download and never finish.  From what I've gathered it's because the files are being deleted to comply with drm pressures.

Any experience with this one ?
As I never heard of it.

I use http://www.xsnews.com , paid version.
One good thing about the BASIC & PRO is that you can share the connections
Speed is very good , so whe you have 8 connections .. you can have 4 & a friend can have 4 .. so you share the cost ;-)

I'm using it (next to ipv6.xsnews and newszilla6) and it seems quite nice. No line speed, though: I seem to get 6 Mbps or so. But not fully tested.

For 2.50 Euro you get 30 days of access. It's certainly worth a try.

Just an update.  NewsHost rocks.  No problems, 900 day retention, unlimited downloads and every download that starts so far has finished.
