WHS 2011 Firewall Issues

Post by jonwestuk »

After much searching on the web and this forum I am still stuck so hope you can help.

I have just built a Windows Home Server 2011 machine (basically a customised version of server 2008 R2) on which I would like to run SabNZBD. The setup went well and I can access SabNZBD perfectly and get it running and downloading from the local user account.

However, when trying to access it from another PC, the browser takes about 5 minutes to find SabNZBD and is the stupidly slow to bring back pages.

Disabling the firewall on the WHS 2011 machine resolves the issue but this is not a long term solution. I have tried opening up the ports on the server. I have even tried opening up all the parts in and out of SabNZBD without any success.

Not being an expert in the Server 2008 R2 firewall I am wondering if any of you kind people can send me some pointers as to how I need to set up the firewall to allow the web page to connect with the firewall enabled.

Thanks,

Jon

Windows7 and Server2008 sometimes have very odd behaviour
because they give preference to IPV6 addresses.
How did you set the host address for SABnzbd?
Make sure it's an IPV4 address.

Thanks for your response. I think the host is set-up properly. I have it set to empty/blank.

empty = Finds and listens on your local (ipv4) ip address.

It's only that "blank" may very well select an IPV6-based address,
because that's what the OS prefers.
You should use a name that resolves to IPV4 or just use
the numerical IP, assuming that you have fixed one for the server.
