how do backup servers work?

Post by aoaaron »

ok i tried downlaoding something and it didnt go through.

i have supernews + a block from blocknews. someone told me astraweb had the file in question. i was thinking, what if i buy a block from astra as well.

so i was wondering, how do blocks work on sabnzbd? will they utilise correctly all the backup servers or just one or what?

If you add both block servers as backup servers, they will both be used when the primary server doesn't have an article. The first backup server to have an article will supply it. You have no control over which one is selected. A given article will never be downloaded from both backup servers though.

Okay, so for example:

I have supernews and a blocknews account. I am 11 blocks short using those two. Will Sab try to get the missing blocks from astraweb backup server if I had one or would it not (i.e. is it random which blocks it requests from which server?)

1) Don't talk about what you're downloading.
2) Why would we download "random" blocks? If you have Supernews as your primary and Blocknews and Astraweb set as backups, if something's missing on Supernews we'll try to get it from one of your backups. If it's not on that backup we'll try the other one.
