Since Aften is simply the audio encoder (and AC3 audio doesn't need to be encoded) will this work without compiling aften?

/usr/bin/tsMuxeR: Mach-O executable i386

I am guessing this is the problem - it's a compiled binary for i386. This device has an ARM Processor so is there any way to make an debian armel executable?

EDIT: Since the source code has not been made available, I have emailed smartlabs to see if it is possible to either release the source or compile it for ARM. I'm guessing that until this happens it will not be possible to use this script.

The autsmuxer.sh errors are caused by the file having carriage returns as EOL. There's a tool called 'dos2unix' to sort this, it can happen if you transfer a script from a Windows machine, and even under some Linux editors.

Regarding tsMuxeR source, you're probably right. I believe the source for an earlier revision is floating around somewhere, most likely from the SmartLabs blog section of their site if it still exists.

I appreciate your help; I'd definitely like to get this going so I can at least see how it performs! Anyways I installed dos2unix and then ran it, and the output changed...

I'm guessing this is because tsMuxeR is not actually executing? I pasted the mkvinfo output above - it is a proper .mkv file that should work, correct? Anyways regarding the source I did see a "tsMuxerGUI_1.9.9.src.zip" in my Google searches but it's no longer hosted where it was, and I can't find it anywhere else. Apart from that, no source information. I may have to wait for a response from SmartLabs - seems like everything else worked.

I think I may have found a workaround, but not using tsMuxeR. I'm not sure it will work because I haven't tested streaming to PS3 yet, but basically I extracted audio and video streams using mkvextract, so I figure why not just remux them into an MP4. Thankfully gpac (mp4box) is open source so I compiled it for the NAS - took about 45 minutes lol.

Anyways I was able to demux, and then remux, the h264 and AC3 streams into an MP4 container, will let you know in a couple hours when I get home if it will stream to the PS3 and play properly. Took like 1 minute with the test mkv file I referred to earlier.

Specifically I ran the following command:
mkvextract tracks hi.mkv 1:v.h264 2:a.ac3 && MP4Box -add v.h264 -add a.ac3 test.mp4 && rm -rf v.h264 && rm -rf a.ac3
Entire process took 3 minutes 14 seconds.

Compare that to 31 seconds on my i3-370m laptop - pretty good IMO. Crossing my finger that it will work for any mkv h264/ac3 video file.

Well, a couple problems still exist. For one, mkv2vob on my laptop is significantly faster than mkvextract --> mp4box, so I'm thinking tsMuxeR may be faster on my NAS if I can get the devs to release it for that platform. Also, while mp4box under windows seems to remux at the right fps, mp4box on linux seems to default to 25 FPS. And since FPS varies quite a lot, I'd need some way to extract the FPS first.

What's wrong with torrents? The site I'm on gets everything faster than pretty much any source you can think of. And full download speed (25 Mbps for me) immediately.

I will check it out tonight. It's at home - I think it's a 1.2Ghz Core Duo. The system is running a recent (within last 9 months) version of Linux Mint. I'll try the chmod 777 as well. This wouldn't be my final build by any means (would use newer hardware), more a proof of concept before I decide to re-architect my home media setup. Thanks for the help.
