Wizard loop - every time i start my pc

Post by Coeluh »

Hey Guys,

I had this problem a while back, then for two months it worked fine, and now it happens again: Every time I reboot my PC I'm prompted with the fresh install wizard of sabnzbd. It seems like my settings are not getting stored or something. What can I do to help this?

Look if SABnzbd actually stores an sabnzbd.ini file.
It's supposed to be here:

The file should be there and it should contain at least one server definition.
It's a text file. Look for [[servers]]

I found it, and I will keep an eye out for when it happens again.

I am also having this problem. It seemed to begin when I upgraded to 0.6.9

I've done a clean install with 0.6.9 and thought the problem was solved but once my computer had been restarted I've got the Wizard loop again.

The easiest work-around is to set the location explicitly.
Open the properties of the shortcut for SABnzbd.
Append to the "Target" field this:
-f c:\path\to\my\folder
Save it.
Of course, choose a path that's usable for you. (And use "quotes" when the path has spaces in it.)
Now all files and folders will be in one place, so you might want to change some on the paths in Config->Folders.

BTW: can you email SABnzbd's log file to bugs at sabnzbd.org ?
Preferable generated when it goes wrong.

The path to a folder where SABnzbd can store its data.
Example: c:\usenet
Normally the data is stored in your "user profile", but for some reason SABnzbd cannot reach that.

shypike, do I need to put that in the shortcut in the SAB folder or the startup folder. The shortcut in the startup folder already has this attached: -b0

Do I need to replace that with -f path...?

The funny thing is SAB works until the machine is switched off, which means the settings must be getting saved and then wiped on shut-down or startup.

Append: -b0 -f file
When SABnzbd is running, is there a sabnzbd.ini file that makes sense?
Possibly it's never written.

shypike, I appended c:\sabsettings\ and everything seemed to work fine. The ini file was written and the settings were there inside. The PC has been restarted a number of times since then and so I thought the problem was fixed. Now I just got home from work and I have the Wizard loop again. The ini at c:\sabsettings\ is there with all my settings in. This is driving me insane.

How do you start SABnzbd?
With the shortcut on the desktop?
If so, check if it's still OK.
If not, how do you start it?

I appended the suffix to the shortcut in the startup folder of windows. First of all, sometimes it seem that two shortcuts appear over there. Second, it does not work, I still get the wizard sometimes. This really needs to be fixed, since it is quite annoying. Is there any more info you need?
