When I'm watching a film with my mediaplayer it jitters and halts when SABNzbd is unpacking a rar set. My mediaplayer is streaming from my download server so that's not really surprising.
Is there any way I can lower the unrar function's cpu priority for SABNzbd?
Thanks!

Re: Lower unrar cpu priority
The problem is probably not the CPU but the disk channel.
When running on Linux you can experiment with the "ionice" settings in Config->Switches.
Otherwise, disable post-processing during the times you watch TV.
(Scheduler option).

Re: Lower unrar cpu priority
Sorry, should have mentioned I'm using Windows Server 2008 R2 and the latest SABNzbd. And you're right, it's the disk, not the cpu.
However if I can slow down the unpacking process this would help a lot, I think. I do disable post-processing like you suggest but I'd rather have it fully automated

Re: Lower unrar cpu priority
I know of no methods to tame unrar further.
It has CPU settings, but not IO settings.
BTW: the same problem occurs for par2, potentially worse.

Re: Lower unrar cpu priority
Think I'll try unpacking to a big usb key then. I'll let you know how that works out. Thanks for your time.
Re: Lower unrar cpu priority
But as soon as you start copying to the hard disk, you get the same problem.
You might as well just postpone post-processing to scheduled times.
