Best way to access WHS Desktop / SABNzbd Interfce

Post by 5aq1b »

Hi - i'm having a bit of an issue here and it's something I have come across on the forums before however I just want a clear cut answer on how to solve the issue i'm having :)

The way I access my my WHS desktop is by remote access. VNC if i'm at home, or LogMeIn if I'm at work. So I log in to the desktop using my windows user account and leave it logged in - so everytime I connect remotely to the server, I get my desktop. From there I can obviously access Sickbeard, SAB etc.

Problem is - If i restart the server or log off my user account and log back in - the queue and download history in sab disappears. It's re-appeared once when clicking repair queue however it haasn't reappeared again after that.

Am I doing somehting wrong here? Is it best to leave the server 'logged off' and to access SAB by another means?

Hope my issue makes sense!

When you log out, all programs are stopped by Windows.
You can install SABnzbd as a Windows Service, to avoid this issue.

It's set to start automatically.

It should not logout then. It doesn't on my WHS box.
Check the Windows event log for clues and also SABnzbd's own logfile.

i'll have a look

i've been told it's not recommended that I log into the box this way and instead I should use advanced admin console?

It shouldn't matter.
The warning is mainly to prevent you from doing admin tasks that might damage the system.
This is because WHS is not a regular Windows-Server system.
If you just start and stop SABnzbd/SB, it should be quite safe.

I had the same issue, could be I started the wizard from the installer.

I performed a deinstallation en installed SABnzbd again on a WHS 2011. After the install I am not to start the wizard from another workstation: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Here is the SABnzbd logging:

Troubleshoot:
Allready changed the host from 0.0.0.0 to 172.16.0.132
Tried to connect to ports 8080 and 9090
Restarted SABnzbd service
Restarted WHS
Disabled firewall

A basic portscan indicates no services are listening on ports 8080 and 9090.

What is going wrong?

You're listing two different 172... addresses in your post: 172.1.0.132 and 172.16.0.132
At least one of them must be wrong.

LOL, my bad indeed. :o What a mistake to make!!! ;)
I changed the SABnzbd host IP from 172.1.0.132 to 172.16.0.132 but I still could not connect.

After disabling the firewall I was able to access and start the setup wizard. I will fool around with that later.
(Portscan is now revealing a service at ports 8080 and 9090.)

Also, after logging off from the WHS desktop I am still able to reach the webpage from another machine.
