Post by clight77 »

Can i turn off auto extraction and do it manualy later ?

Seems i can't download anything while extraction is running, and i have an Dell with i7 processor.

I ended up turning off auto extract and switched from Winrar to 7zip,seems to be a lot better now :)
I will try enable auto extract with 7zip and see how that goes...

Auto extract with 7zip? Does that mean, 7zip monitors the download folders and start auto-extracting.
That might not be fail-safe.
Our most recent 7zip testing did not show any speed advantage over unrar.
SABnzbd does run unrar with some reduction of CPU priority.
Not that that should matter much since it's mostly disk-bound.
In fact the slower unrar/7zip work, the less the disk is trashed.
If 7zip is actually faster, I would expect it to hog the disk even more.

BTw, do you have an article cache?
If not, more disk access is needed, so disk issues are even more likely.

Found out the problem...
I was downloading and extracting to the same USB HD...After doing some reading,
I changed this all to my HD's on PC and don't use USB for this anymore.

I was getting a bit worried as i run an 3.4 Ghz i7 12GB ram.

Things are great now :)

Thanks..
