Updates wipe settings
OK, I've got two issues:
1) When Windows updates, all my Sabnzbd settings get wiped. The setup wizard comes up, and I have to start from scratch. It got so annoying I set up a batch script to backup the sabnzbd.ini file so I could replace it when that happened.
2) when updating to .6.15, I lost all my settings again. Well, most. The port settings were still intact, but my history was gone, all my categories wiped, the download directories changed...
I tired using my backup file, but it's not working. Or perhaps it backed up the fucked up file, I'm not sure.
Anyway, is there any reason why the settings for Sabnzbd should be so volatile? Is there something I can do to ensure updating won't wipe my settings?
Thanks for any help,
Tony
EDIT: I just found this in my warnings tab:

Re: Updates wipe settings
Where are you storing your INI file, in SABnzbd's program folder?
It should be in the user profile.
Remove sabnzbd.ini from "C:\Program Files\SABnzbd".

Re: Updates wipe settings
Yes, it was in "C:\Program Files\SABnzbd." It looks like by deleting it, and resetting everything again, It's now placed it in "C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\sabnzbd\sabnzbd.ini". Not sure why it put itself in the Program Files folder in the first place...
Well, thanks!

Re: Updates wipe settings
It won't put itself in the program folder, unless you specifically told SABnzbd to do that once.
Once the file is there, old (backward-compatible) behaviour is triggered.

Re: Updates wipe settings
OK, it appears to be in the right place now, but this morning I noticed this error:
2012-05-09 03:39:37,690 ERROR: Cannot create backup file for C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\sabnzbd\sabnzbd.ini
Any idea why it would fail to make a backup? It was doing this with the old file location also.

Re: Updates wipe settings
This usually has to do with permissions.
Stop SABnzbd, remove the backup file once, start SABnzbd.

Re: Updates wipe settings
I shut down Sabnzbd, I opened up C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\sabnzbd\ and all that was in there was two folder and "sabnzbd.ini.tmp"
UGH! I restarted, and all my settings are gone again.

How do you start up SABnzbd?

Re: Updates wipe settings
In this case, after shutting it down through the interface, I just double-clicked the shortcut that was placed on the Desktop.
Re: Updates wipe settings
Check the properties of the shortcut.
I suspect that it has odd parameters.

Re: Updates wipe settings
I fear I'm just annoying you at this point...
The shortcut is nothing but to SABnzbd.exe. No additional parameters.

Re: Updates wipe settings
There is something weird going on with access rights.
Try this work around.
Create a folder on a drive with ample space, so e.g. d:\usenet
Modify the shortcut so that the "target" ends with
-f d:\usenet
This will make all settings and default folders go to d:\usenet.
If you want you can move individual folders to other locations in Config->Folders.

Re: Updates wipe settings
Did you un-install the previous version first?
By default the un-installer will remove all settings.
