When you pause the system, it still downloads. It claims its paused (icon is red + title bar says paused), but still downloads at full speed.
The logs show:
2012-06-08 20:26:45,431::INFO::[downloader:208] Resuming
2012-06-08 20:26:45,433::DEBUG::[__init__:516] PAUSED_ALL inactive
2012-06-08 20:26:45,434::INFO::[downloader:217] Pausing
It then forces a disconnect but immediately reconnects and starts downloading again.

"forced" entries will ignore pause.
Do you have any third-party utilities connecting to SABnzbd?

No, I do not use any third-party utilities and the items were not at "Forced" either as far as I remember.

Sometimes the web UI is out of sync with the engine.
A refresh will restore the sync.

Tried a restart?
Anything in the Scheduler?
