Rule of thumb: never log in as root.
the only sab document i found is this http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/install-ubuntu-repo

and it clearly states that i got to edit the faile inside etc/default which i have and type in etc/ini.d/sabnzbdplus start and when i do i get a permission denied error as explained a few posts above.

i do know what sudo is but it doesnt work for saving files under WinSCP for some reason. i have to login as root to do that and to edit that sab file!

You already ran "sabnzbdplus", followed the wizard, and SABnzbd is downloading stuff?

If so, stop sabnzbdplus, find the file sabnzbd.ini and fill it out at "CONFIG=". Then start as a service by "sudo service sabnzbdplus start"
