Hi there!
I'm running Windows 7 64bit, i have a discent cpu Core i3, i have a problem with par2, it's when I have a download that is finished and par2 is checking/repairing the download, it's uses all my disk capacity and it makes my computer unusable, everything goes extremely slow, it's not even possible just to surf the internet, watch a movie or anything.
Is there anyway of slowing down the par process so it does it's job, but I wouldn't mind it if it would take twice as long, or even more, just so I can use my computer while par does it process. So is there any way of limit it's hard drive load? I have tried to use the single core par but the same result, I can't do anything with my computer.
Thanks for the help!
Cheers
Mikael

Re: Slow down disk usage par2
I'm afraid not.
Windows doesn't really have a general concept of disk priority.
Only Win7 has some support, but only when software is specifically written
to take advantage of it. The ancient par2 tool isn't.
BTW: the CPU has a negative influence: the faster it is, the more the disk is trashed.

My guess is that if you limit PAR2's CPU usage to 1%, it can't slow down your system anymore ...

Re: Slow down disk usage par2
I downloaded it, set it up and it solved the problem Xtenzion described. I set BES to watch c:\program files\SABnzbd\win\unrar.\x64\UnRAR.exe and limit that process to -80%, that is, it caps it at 20% of its normal use.
Unpacking is now slower, I'd say indeed about five times slower, but I don't mind. It doesn't interfere with the stream to my tv anymore. I haven't tested other values yet. -75% seemed ok but I wasn't really paying attention then.
In any case, thank you sander!
