Slow speeds - new user
Hi everyone, I'm new to usenet and i understand my slow speed problem could have nothing to do with sab but i though i would start here. I have signed up as a premium member for Astraweb news servers, and have a VIP account with NZB Matrix, both are fully activated. My DL speed with Sab is sitting just above 200 KB/s. I have an unlimited plan with DODO (Australian provider) on adsl2+, they insist they do not shape downloads and i can obtain 800 KB/s with torrent DL's. Astraweb troubleshooting has given me a few ideas to swich around the servers and/or ports so i will try these. There are so many things to tinker with i thought i would grab some direction as well.
I access sab through locahost9090
When i go into SABnzbd >General >Web Server
SABnzbd Host is set to 0.0.0.0
SABnzbd Port 8080
Under HTTPS Support
I have checked Enable HTTPS
HTTPS Port 9090
Version: 0.7.0
OS: Win 7 Home Premium x64
Install-type: Windows Installer
Skin (if applicable): Plush - Gold
Firewall Software: win 7 firewall - Activated
Are you using IPV6? Not sure think i may be IPconfig cmd brings up an ipv6 address, im in australia and using a gateway > router setup ??
Is the issue reproducible? Not sure in which context this applies, I have tried with 2 NZB file downloads now.
Thoughts?

Re: Slow speeds - new user
The quickest test is to try with a basic Usenet program like Grabit.
If that gives the same speed, the cause is not in SABnzbd.
If it's better, maybe some SABnzbd tuning is possible.

Re: Slow speeds - new user
Ahh of course i'll try another and report back cheers
Re: Slow speeds - new user
Hi again, no its not Sab grabit is experiencing 230 KB/s DL speeds aswell any suggestions ?
edit:
when i run them at the same time i get a combined average Dl speed of the same...

Re: Slow speeds - new user
You could try SSL in Config->Servers.
You probably need to use port 563 when using SSL.
Is the Usenet server close by or is it in the US?
How many connections are you using?
BTW: HTTPS won't help, that's just for SABnzbd's internal web server.

Re: Slow speeds - new user
Go to http://speedtest.net/ and click on BEGIN TEST ... what does that report?
Trick question: Do you know the difference between Mbps and MBps ... ?
Are you using wireless or wired from your computer to your modem/router?

Re: Slow speeds - new user
@shypike - I have tried SSL with 563, Astraweb servers are in either EU or US i have tried both
I have slowly dropped my connection from 50 down to 25, testing my DL speed as i go. That seemed to increase the DL speed from about 220 KB/s to about 240 KB/s average.
@sander
speedtest results: ping - 41ms, DL - 1.99Mbps, UL - 0.57Mbps
Mbps (Megabit per second) MBps (Megabyte per second)
Wired interenet comes out of the wall through an ADSL2+ (gateway) modem and then into an AirPort Extreme Base Station router which then splits it to my PC and HTPC
edit: perhaps i can try a different server that way eliminating astraweb as the problem, i'll give that a go

Re: Help With Categories
25 connections is still overkill and a lot of overhead.
Try going back to 16.
Although of course your dealing with long distances.
There are no providers in Australia?

Re: Slow speeds - new user
OK, let's combine your quotes:
So you get the maximum peed with SABnzbd. And 2 Mbps could very well be the ADSL plan you buy from your ISP. If you want more speed, buy more speed from your ISP.
BTW 1: More people are confused by this. See http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/faq#toc29
BTW 2: I think your quote
HTH
and:My DL speed with Sab is sitting just above 200 KB/s.
So: SABnzbd reports 200 KB/s = 2000 Kbps (multiplying by 10, because 8 bits plus 1-2 bits overhead) = 2 Mbps, which is the speed reported by speedtestspeedtest results: ping - 41ms, DL - 1.99Mbps, UL - 0.57Mbps

should be kb/s, not kB/s. Torrent programs often report in bits, not bytes.i can obtain 800 KB/s with torrent DL's

Re: Slow speeds - new user
Ahh you finished the puzzle sandler cheers, I changed my ISP 3 days ago and they were supposed to set me up on adsl2 but it looks like im on adsl1... awesome! i love call center hold music
thanks for the help guys

Re: Slow speeds - new user
Nice to hear your issue is solved
Mine is similar although I have an awesome connection and there is no problems downloading with Unison (I get 8-9MB/s) but with SABnzbd lately (0.7.0+) I have been getting extremely slow speeds and it has to be SAB. Astrawebs is definitely fine since Unison is working properly.
Here is a screenshot from speedtest.net to show my connection is fine:
Any help would be much appreciated. I am wondering if I need to file a bug report?
EDIT: After posting this I went and restored back to 0.6 and I am downloading at 8.25MB/s therefore there is an issue with these latest builds. For people coming across this post, STAY AWAY until they fix.

"Until they fix", easier said than done.DeanCorp wrote:EDIT: After posting this I went and restored back to 0.6 and I am downloading at 8.25MB/s therefore there is an issue with these latest builds. For

It's just guessing when It happens only on your system and there's no more info than just this statement.
Re: Slow speeds - new user
Fair enough. I just thought it has to be that if one minute I am downloading a file at under 1MB/a using 0.7.2 and then downgrade to 0.6 and resume downloads and see 7+MB/sshypike wrote:"Until they fix", easier said than done.DeanCorp wrote:EDIT: After posting this I went and restored back to 0.6 and I am downloading at 8.25MB/s therefore there is an issue with these latest builds. Re: Slow speeds - new user
Is this with the same NZB?
SABnzbd does have the confusing habit of showing a slow speed when it
hits a job that has most of the articles missing.

Re: Slow speeds - new user
Yes exact same NZB. I literally saw 720KB/s, pressed paused. Downgraded to 0.6, resume 8.5MB/s.shypike wrote:Is this with the same NZB?
