Mac expert required for this problem please

Post by brendalee »

Well I have spent literally hours upon hours trying to figure this out. Here is my issue.

I use an imac
I log in with username "me"
I needed to create another username, so I created another admin username "TEST"

I log into TEST and run SAbnzbd, it's asking for a username and password, doesn't work.
It does not work because it's trying to read from my ME account.

I have removed the program from both accounts, rebooted, redownloaded on the TEST account and still asking me for username and pw. Now i know my username and pw so I know there's nothing wrong with that.

I run disk utlities and I run a reboot into mac safe mode of sorts and reset my entire pw system for admin just in case.
nothing

I have no idea what to do at this point. Please advise how to remove this program COMPLETELY and totally from my imac so that I can reinstall it on my new account. Honestly, other formating my entire drive I'm not sure what else to do to fix this.

In the config file on the old user it's reading: users/username/library/apaplication support/sab..etc. I have tried removing the username and pw and that doesn't work either when I log back into the new user.

The user name and password of SABnzbd is not related to your OSX accounts.
Each user running SABnzbd has his own profile stored in /Users/USER/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd

I have tried every user name and password that on earth and this program will simply not run on my new user account. I am afraid to complete delete my old user just in case I won't have access to your program whatsoever. At least it works on the old profile. I just removed the entire program again on both accounts and installed again. Fresh install. Same problem. I also cannot find the config file on either side. I don't understand why this is so difficult. I should be able to run the program on either account like you hinted above about each profile. What username and password is it asking for? I have tried, osx, sabnzbd, newsgroup, every password and user name related to anything computer related. I'm using the new mountain lion of that is any help. I have read so many articles on here and have tried them all. The only thing I cannot find is how to restart without login. I saw something about that and can restart but there's nothing that says without log in. I also saw a post to remove sabnzbd.ini file, but I searched high and low on both accounts and there is no such file. What the......I also saw another post to try the usenet pw, no luck there. Any thing else you can think of to try before I give up?

Check whether SABnzbd is still running under the other account (use Activity Monitor) and stop it.
Then open Applications->Utilities->Terminal and type this:
rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/SABnzbd/sabnzbd.ini
Enter
(Copy-paste, because the text should be exact.)
Then start SABnzbd again.

I checked the activity monitor (omg it was running) never thought to check that.
I tried everything above but cannot find library. I tried different variations, I tried looking for it manually, I have library/application support / and nothing about sabnzbd is in there.

After stopping the running instance, did you start SABnzbd again
from the intended account?

Just tried again:

A username and password are being requested by http://localhost:8080. The site says: "SABnzbd"

(going to try it on another computer..right now)

Yep. By default SABnzbd has no password. SABnzbd only has a password if you said it should have one during the SABnzbd wizard. So ... can you remember what you filled out?

And the username/password is in the file sabnzbd.ini. So therefore the advice is to find and delete that file... Make sure SABnzbd is not running.

Ok it worked fine, I think I found the issue, now how to fix??? The username and password section is for the NEWSGROUP...and the instructions I have are for my old newsgroup. so I have now written the proper newsgroup on my instruction sheet. (GROAN)
So not sure how to get it reset, will try and move to trash again, stop the program and start over.

so to continue on...I still want to remove program from this computer on all profiles, and start over so just to see if it works again on this computer.
Please can you advise if this is what I should do?

1) Place sabnzbd into the trash bin
2) clear cache from browser
3) Make sure sabnzbd isn't still showing as running
4) do this on both users,

reboot computer.
If I do all the above, wouldn't it seem like a new install after that if I start over? BTW thanks for your patience.

Do you see the down arrow in the OSX top menu?
Click it and select Troubleshoot->Restart - No login

I'm sorry to ask this question. What arrow? I'm not sure what your referring to? I cannot get into your program so I'm assuming your not talking about your own program. Are you talking about my own mac or something on your site? Can you spell it out please? I see three other emails referring to this but I have no idea what you mean and I'm a computer geek.

When SABnzbd is running it will put an icon (a down arrow) in the OSX top menu bar.
If you don't see this, use Activity Monitor to see if SABnzbd is running at all.
If not, then remove each sabnzbd.ini file you can find in the user profiles.
It's this file: /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd/sabnzbd.ini
where USERNAME is your user id.
You will need to enable hidden files in the Finder, or otherwise use Applications->Utilities->Terminal.
Then type literally:

Code: Select all

rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/SABnzbd/sabnzbd.ini
Press Enter.
After removing this file (or files in other profiles), start SABnzbd again.
The Setup wizard will show up in the browser.
This time read carefully and only enter a user name and password for your Usenet subscription ("Step one" page).
Do not enter those on the "Step Two" page!
