Slow download speeds fixed with Sabnzbd restart ?

Post by hvyprq »

Hi,

Have just installed sabnzbd (0.73 from Osx binary) onto a new mac mini. When i startup sabnzbd after booting, the download speeds max out at 400-500 kB/s. If i then restart sabnzbd from within the web interface (Options menu), when restarted, downloads speeds are 1.5mB/s (which is what i would expect it to be...).

Any ideas why it is doing it and how i can fix so don't need to restart to get higher download speed? Tried playing with process priority but this did not work...

Kind rgds,

What happens if you just pause, wait 10 seconds and then resume?
Instead of restarting.

I cannot reproduce it at all on my mid-2010 miniMac (with ML).
On my system, SABnzbd is about the last program to start (after DropBox, Growl etc.)
Initially SABnzbd is a bit slow, because the OS keeps doing all sorts of things,
but after about two minutes it regains its normal speed.
When does it start on your system?
I'm not sure if you can influence the start-up order, but if possible put SABnzbd near the end.

no, will stay like that for hours. Only fix is to restart sab. Do that and immediately 3x faster. very strange... looks like some kind of throttling in place when first starts up...

Hello,

I am also experiencing the same behaviour on my setup. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a 32GB / i5-3.10GHz / SSD & Raid-10 box.
I'll get downloads peeking at 1.5-2.2 MB/s where it will stay. I'll restart Sabnzbd using the web console until it hits it's full 10+ MB/s.
While it was behaving like this, I paused the downloads and fired up binreader and immediately started downloading at full speed.
I've also tried dropping the number of connections to the NNTP server by half, which exactly halved the 1.5 MB/s it was downloading at.
I should also note, that I use SSL, but this happens regardless of encryption or port number.

Load average on the machine during full download speed is approximately .40 and CPU idle is 90+%.
This happened while I was using 0.7.3 and after I upgraded to 0.7.4.

Any insight or ideas appreciated.

Hi this is happening to me too, I am running 64 bit Windows 7.

Speeds will go down to 0 B/s and won't go up till I restart Sabnzbd. It appears to have started directly after updating to 0.7.4.

Would love a solution, hope it gets fixed soon.

What happens when you go back to 0.7.3 ?

I didn't think of that, i'm an idiot. I'll do that now.

Although the problem doesn't happen all the time so it might be a little while before i'm sure it's fixed.

I got this problem yesterday. I had 0.7.2 at the time. Upgraded to 0.7.4 and that didn't help.
Can't help but think that this has something to do with my harddrive change yesterday. Replaced the normal 500GB drive in the Mac Mini with an SSD.
Could this cause the problem?

Not likely, but you never know.
It certainly does influence startup timing.
The problem is that so far I have not been able to reproduce this behaviour at all.
Does a SABnzbd restart solve the speed issue?

When I let SABnzbd autostart in OSX, it's about the last program to start.
But in my case it goes to its normal high speed within seconds.
Maybe you can try if this tool solves the issue?

(At your own risk, obviously :) )

If that works for you, I have some info to go on and maybe adding some
startup delay in SABnzbd is enough.

A restart does not solve this. I had a speed around 8 MB/s down with the old disk and now its around 500 KB/s to 2 MB/s. I have installed a Crucial RealSSD model C300 CTFDDAC064MAG. Everything else runs fast. The disk should have a write speed of 75 MB/s. I have activated TRIM. I will try to do the "delete free space" trick when I get a chance. If anyone else have any suggestions, they will be very appreciated.
