Remote / Web Access keeps hanging / crashing

Post by joshua »

I have SABNZBD 0.7.6b1 installed on my 2011 Mac Mini w/ 10.8.2.

As a whole everything is working fine with exception of accessing it remotely, after a few hours or days...

Here's the behavior... Run sabnzbd, everything looks fine and works fine but then at some point, usually within a day or two, I can't get to it via the web, either remotely (on the same network or from my office), or evening from the machine itself. Oddly, it's still running and will retrieve bookmarks and download files without problems but the web/remote access is dead.

This has been going on since 7.5 as well as with 10.7.x - I recently upgraded both sabnzbd and then even my OS to 10.8 (and then the correct build for Mt. Lion 10.8) as well but it's still exhibiting the same behavior.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

What kind of "host" address are you using?
If 0.0.0.0, can you still have access to localhost:8080/sabnzbd?

A dirty work-around could be to schedule a daily restart in SABnzbd's own scheduler.

I have the same issue on the same setup (mini 2011), First I thought it was the IP indeed that changed with the update but changing that back to 0.0.0.0 did not change.

Even rebooting the system hangs on a grey screen.. It is definitely related to SABNZBD because the system runs stabile without SABNZBD running. The problems began after 0.7.4 but have worsened with 0.7.6. It runs for a few hours and than jams the whole system.

Looks like some crash in the Apple Python runtime libraries.
I really have no idea.
It's just about impossible to diagnose such problems.
A few weeks ago, some reported similar problems on Windows and
after a full evening of testing he discovered that it was a buggy network driver.
I'm not claiming that it's something similar in your case,
but I simply have no means to diagnose this. I cannot reproduce it on my Apple systems.
I'll soon do another 48hour test, maybe that will bring up something.

Do you have some additional security software, besides the standard OSX firewall?

Oddly my system still runs fine and can still retrieve bookmarks etc. I just can't access it via any browser, local or remote, or any 3rd party apps. Where do I find the crash log to upload?

The crashlogs have no meaning for me.
They're just a load of gibberish about things going wrong inside Apply libraries.
SABnzbd's own log might shed some light, but I doubt it.
The behaviour suggests that somehow the web framework runs out of a resource.
I did see in one of the logs that there were very frequent API calls to SABnzbd.
Do you have some third-party utility sending calls like mad?

The api calls you see are probably from a few multi season shows i added. But even with empty queue SABnzd jams completely within a few hours. Strange thing though, the top bar menu remains active and i can see sabnzbd running inactivity monitor.

I do not say this is a 100% sabnzbd issue but fact is that when sabnzbd runs, the system crashes and w/o sabnzbd it runs fine. No clue where to look, i tried reinstalling szbnzbd already.

I use sabnzd for many years without a single issue..

There is no older version that works any more?
Is there a version you can go back to?
It's all a bit time consuming, but you could try the Lion build on MountainLion.
