SABnzbd-0.4.5 RC2 crashes when loading cache

Post by HeaveNLy »

Before I start I'd like to say that this app is just great! Great job!

Now I hope I can add some value by reporting this bug.

The problem is that on certain moments SABnzbd crashes.

When I start SABnzbd again the error that is given:
2008-11-05 20:36:29,241 ERROR [sabnzbd] Loading /home/chris/.sabnzbd/cache/SABnzbd_nzo_dHXEOD failed

This was the second time it happened in 3 hours. Furthermore the current download disappeared from the queue.

Maybe, it's my harddrive not doing that well, however it is only 3 weeks old. If this indeed would be the case, maybe the way SABnzbd handles this errors could be adjusted so that it won't crash?

I'm currently using Ubuntu 8.10 and the latest jcfp release.

Thank you for your time.

How do you stop SABnzbd?
If you stop it in another way than with it's shutdown function, the cache folder
will get corrupted (not the disk, but the internal relations between the files).

In such a case clean the cache folder first.

I never stopped it by hand, but I found out it was due to a big nzb file for 23 GB of data.
After I divided the nzb in smaller parts, SABnzbd+ just keeps running without trouble for over 12 hours now.

Thanx for the cache cleaning tip. It's just a waste of time when you have to download big files from the start again.

Was the NZB itself 23G (hard to imagine) or the downloaded size?
Can you email the original NZB file (please zip first) to bugs at sabnzbd.org?

It shouldn't make much difference whether you have one or (say) 10 NZBs
if the total download size is the same.
I have seen bigger queues than that.

The NZB is 9,4 mb and the downloaded size was 23G.

I've emailed it as you requested.

No problem here with the big NZB on a lowly Pentium III Ubuntu 8.04 Server system (640M memory).
How much memory do you have?
The peak memory usage is bigger for one 9M NZB than for 9 x 1M NZB's.
A 9M file would temporarily use about 20M extra memory.

I didn't actually download the stuff, is a bit too much  ;D
But the system behaves quite normal.

Mm than it would probably be my setup. Currently it's a quadcore cpu, 2G memory and 5G swap (my system is three weeks old).

I guess the drivers and such are not fully 100% working with this setup. On Ubuntu 8.10 (with everything updated) even GNOME crashes also sometimes over here. (apart from the sabnzbd crash of course).

However, I'd still like to thank you for your quick support and for me having a stable SABnzbd+ (even though I have to not take that risk of big files again on my current system)
