When you have a bunch of news articles queued up, it would be nice to have the optional 'check before download' to run in the background. That way when you are ready to download articles, you don't first have to wait for for the checker to finish before starting the download.
It also might be nice to have a feature called 'checking' under the processing dropdown which when selected is dedicated to only checking the articles and not downloading them until you are ready.
Thanks for this great app!

Re: Run 'Check before download' in the background
There is no "background".
Checking consumes connections to the server(s).
One way or another it will reduce your maximum bandwidth.
If consuming the minimum amount of actual bytes is less important to you than speed,
you should not be using the pre-download check. Instead use the new 0.7.9 "abort when completion is not possible".

+1 to this feature.
Consuming connections is fine. I have 20 connections on my usenet server, and using 2-4 for completion checking would be fine (and probably not drop my speed by any - 10 connections can saturate my cable modem).

Re: Run 'Check before download' in the background
It's not going to happen.
It is way too complicated to implement and the benefit is too limited.
If you're mostly interested in speed, use the "abort, when completion not possible" option.

Re: Run 'Check before download' in the background
Thank you for the tip, I didn't know that, and will try it since it is exactly what I was wondering: why doesn't SAB separate some connections to do prechecking for the next download. If I understand you correctly, it can do that with the new switch. Glad I donated beer to youshypike wrote:It's not going to happen.

I did donate a beer to the good cause :-)

Repeating myself:
It would need a second queue for that. It's is way too complicated to implement and the benefit is too limited.
