Out of servers retention but friend can get file

Hi, hope someone can help, i keep trying to get files that are less than a week old and i keep getting the 'out of your servers retention' error, now i have a friend who got me set up on Astraweb, sabnzbd and sickbeard and he can d/l the files i want, im signed up with astraweb (unlimited plan), with updated versions of Sabnzbd (SABnzbd 0.7.10) and sickbeard (SickBeard-win32-alpha-build499), have tried different ports which Astraweb uses and still no resolution, i had the same issue with the previous versions of sickbear and sabnzbd.

Please help

I have periodically run into this problem myself. I solved it in the past by changing the retention time in the Settings/Server Tab. You must choose show details. You will then see retention time, I changed mine to 3000. Maybe that will help.

A little word of warning about the retention time setting.
Do NOT set a retention time when you have only one server.

Quote from the Wiki:

Set here the maximum retention time3 (in days) of your server. Zero means infinite retention. Only use this when you have multiple servers and you want to avoid that SABnzbd wastes time on asking servers for articles it cannot have. Be aware that retention times advertised by Usenet providers are not absolute. If you set it too low, your others servers will be used more intensely. There is no reason to set a retention time when you have only one server.

Have tried changing retention to 3000, it downloads files ive had no issue with but not the files im having the issues with, have reset retention back to 0

I am having this issue too with SABnzbd 0.7.11 using newshosting usenet. I have a feeling that it might be a problem from here though http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/faq

SABnzbd shows a very slow download speed, with a extremely high ETA, but is progressing quite fast through the post, and then fails.

These are the symptoms of a post that's not available on your newsserver. Easy check: during the download, hover your mouse above the item; it will show a high number of missing articles.

I finding after they fail I retry and notice this. But the first time they download it is all fine e.g. normal dw speed etc. Not sure about the missing articles in the first download though.

I have the exact same problem. Even if I set sickbeard to use other qualities.. all the files of the series return an "download failed - out of your servers retention?". It does however download a 375kb .rar file, so that means that the NZB is not out of retention and something else must be the problem.

Sickbeard won`t try a different download because SAB has success with the 375kb file. Also, in sickbeard you can`t select to try another download if SAB sets it to a success - which it does when the one file gets DL.

It all cooks down to SAB not working because that one file gets processed when the movie doesn`t.

I am also having problems with this. Some work fine. Then others just do not. My retention is like 1800 days! (NewsDemon)

I am new to this but set up everything as I was told and tried downloading since yesterday. I have done 7 different nzb's and each time after 100% completion, I also get the "download failed - out of your servers retention?" error. Some of the files were only 2 days old and others were much older. I am really frustrated as nothing seems to be working? Please help me in the right direction...

Hi,

I had exactly the same error message (Download failed - Out of your server's retention?). I fixed it by changing the "incomplete" and "download" folders in the config menu to be locally stored. Before I had it set to my network drive. After that I retried downloading and it worked.
I think this could be due to a permissions restriction. The error is a bit misleading...

Which version of sabnzbd are you running?!
