should i get hp microserver

at the moment am using synology nas for sabnzbd but only get 1mbs download if i use pc can get 2mbs. so was wondering if i get hp n54 microserver would i get my 2mbs download speed or not. i've read on forum about atom cpu slower and i3 much faster but hp microserver uses amd. also repairing very slow on nas. would like to hear anyone's experience using hp microserver

So I doubt if you will get much higher speeds with your HP / Turion.

I'm using its predecessor, the N36L and I haven't regretted it yet. Put enough memory into it and it'll make you happy.

I don't own one, but a microserver would be high on the list if I felt the need for this kind of "better-than-a-nas file server with extras". Perfect for a resource efficient system like a command line linux (server) install, might need more memory for resource hungry uses (windoze / VMs / certain database stuff). Properly setup, should be powerful enough out of the box for at least 100 mbit/s from usenet when not busy with other things.

have you ever noticed it takes a long time to repair files also what download speeds do you reach. my nas only has Memory: 128MB, CPU Frequency: 800MHz which is nothing compared to hp microserver. only asking as they got £100 cashback till end of june

I have the original N36L model which I bought a couple of years back for £100 once the cashback was applied.

Maxes out my broadband at 3.6MB/s (40Mb Fibre). It could probably verify and extract quicker, but it's quick enough for me (tends to work mostly overnight so I don't notice). This morning it took 2 mins and 40 seconds to extract 7Gb for example.

I have upgraded the RAM to 4gb, it has four drives, two in a RAID1 for the OS (Ubuntu server 12.10) and 2 in RAID0 for the data (to try and improve the verify and extract speed). I've also added an additional network card (bonded 2Gb connection) and the RMC (Remote Control Card) so I can view, control and mount drives remotely. All runs headless no problems at all. I just SSH in for updates and maintenance.

I use it for SAB, Transmission, Sickbeard and Couchpotato.

Highly recommended. The new version looks almost the same except the slightly quicker processor otherwise I'd grab it.

I just got the N54L and packed it with HD's and max mem. It verifies and unpacks VERY fast.
