On a Mac, simply install the following software to enable IPV6...you don't need to sign up for any of those other IPV6 services:

http://www.deepdarc.com/miredo-osx-prerelease2.pkg.zip

Then you can use eweka or the other IPV6 servers available...

I have been unable to connect to test.news-service.com pretty much since my last post here, seems like it's not open anymore.

ipv6.eweka.nl and newszilla6.xs4all.nl works though: thanks for the tip on tspc Sander!

Where is that said?

FYI: the URL http://www.nl-ix.net/news.php#081007ipv6 is an Internet Exchange site and the message is about (free) IPv6 peering. Not so useful for end-users and not directly related to Newsservers.

Thanks phunkysai. Works great, but if anyone has any issues with it be sure to check your console log as (in certain situations) it recommends an additional package to be installed which seems to make it more stable on my old Powerbook G4. Cheers.

Both eweka and newszilla6 seem to be working for me at the moment :) xsnews isn't - never manage to get a connection there

news.ipv6.eweka.nl works fine for me: four concurrent connections are downloading right now.

Easy way to check (on Linux, don't know about telnet in other OSes):

Code: Select all

sander@ubuntu810:~$ telnet news.ipv6.eweka.nl nntp
Trying 2001:4de0:1::1:1...
Connected to news.ipv6.eweka.nl.
Escape character is '^]'.
201 news.ipv6.eweka.nl NNRP Service Ready - [email protected] (no posting).

Yes, same here: system is there, but refusing NNTP connections.

I have noticed that eweka just randomly goes down for a while. Sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for days. I guess we'll just have to cross our fingers and hope for the best.....

Thanks for quick replay guys. "Glad" it's not only my problem :P i filed a ticket with them asking about it, hope they are just upgrading. I will update you guys.
For now i'm using newszilla6.xs4all.nl , but i don't get full line speed with it like with eweka. Anyone knows of another nice ipv6 free news server?
