I have just tried to download an nzb. The nzb does not go to the designated desktop and when I check "downloads" it shows that the nzb has been deleted. Also, I cannot open the SABnzbd interface to check my settings. The last time I used SABnzbd to download a TV show from 1 day earlier, I got an error msg saying that it was out of my servers retention period (?). Has SAB blown up somehow? Non-geek asking for help, please.

Check your connection in Status and Interface settings window.
Use Test Server in Config > Servers.

Do you have a browser add[-on installed that handles NZB files?
First save the file in a place outside of "Downloads".
Then inspect the file with a tool like Notepad and check whether it looks like an NZB file.
After that upload it manually to SABnzbd.
"Out of server retention" actually means that the data simply isn't on the server anymore.
Happens a lot lately.

Thanks for the reply, shypike. Not sure what browser add-on you might be referring to...non-techie, here. I just use SABnzbd. I save nzb files to my desktop but I couldn't tell you anything about the "look" of and nzb file. Sorry. How would I upload manually to SAB?

I used to get this warning but I always clicked through it and the web site would open...not now. And I get a "privacy error" msg now. I have also gotten these msgs on my email and LastPass accounts, too, but they cleared up the following day.

It looks like your security suite is interfering.
Are you using https to access SABnzbd ?

I disabled my AVAST! security shields and it had no effect. Could not connect to the SAB web page with either Chrome or IE. Screen shots are available of the msg screens...but I don't know how to do that.

Try to find the sabnzbd.ini file in your profile.

Save and close.
Then start SABnzbd again.

Thank you... SAB opened without any problems. I saved the original .ini file before I did the mods you specified. Do I need it any longer? I also find a ini.bak file. Note: my https_port = 8080 entry was actually 9090 before I changed it...is that important?

Luckily my login worked. But when I tried to reopen the main web page I got "SSL error." I tried closing SAB and re-opening but got the error msg described before "...privacy error."
So, now I'm stuck again. Should I uninstall and re-install?

"Privacy error"? That's not coming from SABnzbd.
You can erase the sabnzbd.ini file, of course you'll lose all settings (but not download history).
The next time you start SABnzbd it will come up with the Wizard.

No, that's a Chrome thing..."your connection is not private"...The msg I get on IE is " There is a problem with this website’s security certificate. We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website." That's what I get when SAB tries to open it's web page.
UPDATE... OK, I think I've got this thing working again. If I just click through the warning (ignoring the "not advised"), the web page opens just fine. Oh, and I've discovered why the downloaded nzb files were auto removed... they were not in nzb format. They were "...kbit.nzb" and "...nmr.nzb" formats. Don't know what that means but at least I found it.
UPDATE... Well, I've got SAB running with the interface showing and after resetting my Watched Folder, SAB correctly picked up a test nzb file and displays it, but now nothing happens. Downloading does not start. What have I done wrong now?

Your previous problem was caused by using https.
SABnzbd doesn't come with valid https certificates.
Just don't use https if you run everything on the same PC.
Did you define a valid Usenet server?
Is SABnzbd paused?
What happens if you repeatedly move the mouse cursor over the top job.
Does the popup say that many articles are missing?

I have rechecked my server designations and think they are correct except SAB config has my email address as my server username. Even after I correct and SAVE, it reverts to my email address. TEST SERVER doesn't seem to work with either the email ID login or the corrected login. I get the popup msg "The page at 127.0.0.1:8080 says 'Timed out'." I have retention days per UseNetServer website. SAB download site now has red down arrow beside the speed designation. SAB is not paused. Maybe I need a walk-through to set up UseNetServer correctly (?).

However, SAB would not let me SAVE the correct login. Username and password always reverts to email address/login for SAB, not UsenetServer. HOST address did not change.

Possibly your web browser is pasting in usernames and passwords?
Some add-ons to browsers give problems.

It seems that LastPass was auto-logging that config page. Once I changed that, SAB seems to be back to normal! I'm not sure how all of this got so messed up, but I'm most appreciative for your assistance and patience with this senior, SAB novice.
