un rar always files. Zip files fine.

Guys,

I have the latest release installed on a synology CS407 and have it downloading fine.
However when it comes to unpacking i get no joy with RAR files, they always fail with CRC FAILURE.
ZIP files are fine it is just RAR files.

Here is part of the log, not sure how much is needed but it seems to cover a failed download.

If you are a virgin media customer, you should be using the server news.virginmedia.com
Also you need to stay within the retention of this server, you can only download files posted in the last 7-10 days I believe. It is recommended you pay for a proper usenet provider such as giganews or astraweb.

Strange that par2 says it is ok, and it still fails the CRC. I'm still thinking it is a RAM or hard drive issue on your nas.

Try manually running unrar on the file on your nas, and also transfering the file to your pc and running unrar on it.

Thanks for your help on this.

I have accessed the shared folder on the NAS and double clicked the rar file and it un packs ok, i am assuming the un rar is carried out by the mac though. How do i get the NAS to do the processing?

i have transfered it to my mac and it unpacks ok. All RAR files do this, not just a select few.

Ok so i have SSH into the NAS and gone to the folder where the file is stored.

I'm not sure where unrar will be stored on the system, maybe try:
/bin/unrar x path/to/file.rar

Hmmm this get stranger.

That didn't work but i have just downloaded two movies that unpacked fine.
The ones that don't seem to be Nintendo DS roms.

Could be the same person posting the files that aren't working. Maybe the rar's he is creating have problems being unrared in the version of unrar you have installed. Not sure where the fault lies really.
