Sabnzbd slow compared to other downloader

Post by boe »

Hello,

I could use your help. For the past couple of weeks sabnzbd has been working fine. I think my ISP is shaping traffic so I have two newsgroup servers to get maximum throughput. This morning it is only very slow when a single file is being downloaded at a time so I have to manually start a second file download to take advantage of both servers. This means I have to monitor my downloads and force another file to get it to download if another file is still downloading. If I download 2 files at a time I get pretty good speed but it is less than half the speed with one file actively downloading at a time. I have a list of 10 files for it to download but it needs 2 actively downloading to get any speed. Yesterday it would use both servers for the download of a single file with good speed- not so today. I could uninstall sabnzbd but I thought I'd try to learn the fix in case someone knows the answer.

To be clear - 1 file downloading with several in the queue - slow download. 2 files actively downloading with several in the queue fast.

I also tested this with a single server and double servers - still faster with 2 active file downloads downloading at the same time.
I also tested using different ports and different cache settings - no significant difference.
I also tried using fewer and more connections - always works fastest with the maximum number of connections for each server.

Re: Only 1 file at a time queues as active on a single serve

If the first server was really slow, and adding a second made it go much faster, it sounds like all of your speed is coming from the second server. So maybe set the second as a Primary and the first as a Backup?

THanks - normally I get about 10MB/sec on each. The issue today is if I enable just 1 server (either one) i'm only getting about 4MB/sec on a single file download. If I enable both I get about 6MB/sec on a download. If I force a second download on another file in my queue to happen then I get aobut 20 plus MB/sec. The slowness occurs when only 1 file is downloading. For the past 2 weeks I could download a single file at a time and get about 20MB/sec download.

Update - I just tested with only 1 server connected - 3.5MB/s download. I then stopped sabnzbd and tested with hellonzb with same nzb - I got 16MB/s download. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling saabnzbd. I made sure the directory was deleted after the install. I told it not to save settings on uninstall. I have my computer firewall disabled. I'm not sure why I get great speeds with hellonzb and slow speeds with sabnzbd. I'm happy to provide more info.

Hello,

I thought solved the issue. I uninstalled it again and this time I installed 7.16 and I'm getting great speeds again for about 1 minute and then it drops. I tested with nzbget and it maintains a steady speed of 21-25MB/s whereas for some reason sabnzbd is all over the place until it finally drops to a steady 3-4MBz. I updated again to version 7.19 but the issue remains.

OK - now it is slow for everything even when I download multiple files simultaneously. NZBet gives me great speeds, I just don't like the hassle of trying to associate an nzb file with the app.
