Any ETA on the GUI? With the new seasons coming up I'd love to be able to use this, I just don't have the time at the moment to devote to figuring it out  :D

Hi all,

Love the idea of this program but I just can't seem to get the setup correct, I get the following error:

2009-09-06 14:49 INFO - --- STARTING --- - __init__.py:91
2009-09-06 14:49 INFO - begin processing tv directory: /Users/xxxxx/xxxxx/tv_root/ - __init__.py:137

2009-09-06 14:49 INFO - begin processing sources - __init__.py:203
2009-09-06 14:49 WARNING - invalid feed '%s' - missing url! - __init__.py:227

2009-09-06 14:49 INFO - finished processing source items - __init__.py:435

Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Thanks

What do you have as your RSS feeds?

I am having issues as well. I am sure I have done something wrong but am unsure what it is.

This is what I get when trying to run it.

$python mediarover.py

/home/xxx/mediarover/mediarover/utils/configobj.py:271: DeprecationWarning: BaseException.message has been deprecated as of Python 2.6
 self.message = message
Traceback (most recent call last):

   mediarover.main()
 File "/home/xxx/mediarover/mediarover/__init__.py", line 73, in main
   config = generate_config(config_dir)
 File "/home/xxx/mediarover/mediarover/config.py", line 439, in generate_config
   config = ConfigObj(os.path.join(path, "mediarover.conf"), configspec=spec)
 File "/home/xxx/mediarover/mediarover/utils/configobj.py", line 1287, in __init__
   self._load(infile, configspec)
 File "/home/xxx/mediarover/mediarover/utils/configobj.py", line 1370, in _load
   raise error
mediarover.utils.configobj.ConfigObjError: Parsing failed with several errors.
First error at line 99.

Edit - I worked past that issue - I had not put the "=" with the ignore = 1,2,3,4 etc. on a few of the shows.  I simply had ignore 1,2,3,4 and media rover did not like it.

Now I have the following

2009-09-08 17:39 INFO - watching 4 tv show(s) - __init__.py:211
2009-09-08 17:39 INFO - begin processing sources - __init__.py:214

2009-09-08 17:39 WARNING - invalid feed '%s' - missing url! - __init__.py:238

2009-09-08 17:39 INFO - finished processing source items - __init__.py:446

So I am guessing it does not like how i put the urls to the rss feeds in the conf file. Will play with it and hopefully make some progress....

Nevermind - I figured it out and it's working -- I messed it up in this section...

#  [ source ]
#
#     [[ plugin_1 ]]
#
#        # source 1
#        [[[ user_label_1 ]]]
#
#         # required
#         url = http://path/to/rss/feed/...
#
#         # optional
#         category = tv
#         timeout = 60 # in seconds
#
#        # source 2
#        [[[ user_label_2 ]]]
#         url = http://path/to/rss/feed/...
#         category = tv
#         timeout = 60 # in seconds
#
#     [[ plugin_2 ]]

I was just putting the url = httprssfeedsomewhere.com under the source with out putting in a [[[user label]]]  -- Once I put in the [[[user label]]] it worked fine....

I had errors similar to yours and was able to figure it out. See the post directly above this one...  I am not sure if that's what causing your issue, as I am just setting this up for the first time today myself, but I hope it helps....

I got it up and working 100% - for some reason it did not recognize a lot of the material I already had and queued it up anyway, which is fine, easy fix by manually renaming.

I let it run a few repeats anyway to make sure it and the scripts were working, (Like a dumbass after editing the sorting script variables, I did not make it executable - thank god sabnzbd has an option to show script output or it would have taken me forever to figure out what I missed)

Thanks much for this software, it is exactly what I needed.  While it's not a big deal to go to newzbin every few days, run a search, and click on what I want, this will make things so much more convenient.

I have been running sabnzbd for about a year or so now, and love it, but just recently became interested in more automation of things as we dropped our subscription television and I am migrating us to iptv type solutions like boxee, or playon. Been playing with both, and a few other things, but am trying to have a cable or sattelite replacement at 1/4 the cost.  God knows my Internet provider must hate me now, I am pulling at least a terrabyte a month now (guessing, have not actualy checked my router to see what the number is)

It's not that bad - just dive in and try. Took me a lot longer to get sabnzbd up and running back when I first installed it, than it did this...  The wife and kids won't bug you while you set it up either as long as you let them know this is gonna get them their favorite crap to watch.  My wife had my kids bring me food and beer while I figured it out, she is excited as fuck that her favorite shows will be available the minute they are uploaded.

So far this thing is kicking ass, but I just came across an issue.  Is there any way to make sure that it only grabs stuff in specific language?  It just pulled an episode of a tv show I like that was in German.  I only speak English.  Obviously that doesn't work to well for me.

WHOAH! A sex-something?
6 posts in a row. :P

ANyway, as for your question, that depends on the specific rss feed.

It's coming along, slowly.  Lately work and family have been monopolizing every waking moment so I haven't been spending much time on new development :(.  My current implementation is very basic and very ugly but it is working.  I hope to have something usable that I can release in the next week or so but I don't want to promise anything.

If you (or anyone else) is interested and really keen to use what I've got so far, I'd be willing to release my changes.  Just drop me a line and let me know.  If I get a couple of people interested in using it I'll make it happen.

Hey qrb123,

As rollingeyeball said, it depends on your RSS feed.  Media Rover is dumb in that it just consumes whatever you give it.  If you give it data that contains German TV, it'll download German TV.  My suggestion to you would be to create a custom search that only includes English content.  Newzbin allows you to do this but I'm not sure about the other currently supported sources.  Its a difficult problem to accurately solve: Newzbin includes language data in the RSS feed so it would be possible to filter language using that.  Unfortunately, none of the other sources provide language data and parsing the nzb title is never going to be a reliable solution.

Your best bet is to use newzbin and define a custom search.

IMO if you are using Newzbin, then created saved searches, and simply use the RSS feeds from them.

If you do that, it allows you simply to change your saved search in newzbin (say if you want to move a show to HD not SD), and your mediarover will automatically take that feed instead.

Whilst it make mediarover dumb it's actually a great way of doing things.

Hey Kierse, thanks for the reply!

Know exactly how you feel on the work and family front - that's why I don't have time to spend figuring the setup out lol.

I am definitely interested in using what you have got so far - new seasons are just around the corner, and I have a two week holiday in Jamaica coming up - would be nice to set it and forget it while away  ;D

Ugly I can happily deal with!

I was just trying to start out simple with this one:

# tvnzb.com RSS feeds go here
[[ tvnzb ]]

url = http://www.tvnzb.com/tvnzb_new.rss

Thanks
