Would it perhaps help reinstalling again?

You can always try, but a damaged program folder isn't very likely.

I was wondering, could it have something to do with the architecture? (32/64bit)
And did you (shypike) find out if any of the things sabnzbd use has been updated?

I cannot get it to fail on either 32 or 64 bit OSses.
Except for Python itself, we're using the latest available for all relevant components.
When 0.6.0Final is out, I can build an alternative version with a later Python.
The reason we don't do that yet has to do with the increasing unpleasantness
of distributing more recent Microsoft runtime libraries.
