Re: Unrar issue with SABnzbd 0.6.9

I'm experiencing the same issue.

Win 7 Home Premium here.

Sab works beautifully but it's just not unraring the files. Thankfully XBMC can handle that, but I'd really like a single neat file. I just put sab on this machine as it's new and it hasn't ever unrared for me. On my old XP machine with the previous version of sab it worked no problem.

I have
Enable Unrar, Enable Unzip, Enable Filejoin, Enable TS Joining and Enable Par Cleanup, Post-Process Only Verified Job and Enable SFV-based checks selected. Everything else is not selected.

I've tried reinstalling sab and I did a memory check on my machine which came back clean. I also have tried files both auto-downloaded using SickBeard and manually adding NZBs and neither unrar.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a snippet of the last download I tested from my log file:

I see you have a 64bit Windows 7 version.
For some reason the 64bit versions of unrar and par2 don't work properly on some systems.
Try disabling the 64bit versions by disabling the "special" option "allow_64bit_tools"
as described here:
http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-special

So I want to check and see if I did this correctly:

I shut down Sabnzbd, opened the sabnzbd.ini file in AppData\Local\sabnzbd folder and changed the allow_64bit_tools = 1 line to allow_64bit_tools = 0.

I tested it out, but I'm still just getting the RAR/PAR files with the same setting I have listed above. Could it be that I need to reinstall and make that mod first? Any other tips?

Thanks!

You haven't actually told what exactly goes wrong.

Sorry, I'll try to elaborate as best I can:

With my XP machine on the previous version of sabnzbd, the TV show downloads would get downloaded successfully and unpack and join into either single .mkv or .avi files.

With my current machine and the current version of sabnzbd, the TV show downloads get downloaded successfully, but instead of getting unpacked, joined .mkvs or .avis I'm getting a folder for each episode which is the name of the episode and inside the folder are the RAR and PAR files.

XBMC can play these no problem so it's not really affecting my home setup, but I like to get at these videos using my tablet and for that to work, they need to be unpacked and in single video files.

Hope this is clearer, I appreciate the help.

Just upgraded to 0.6.9 from 0.6.5 I believe and having problems with unrar as well.

my unrar failed because of a name length (expected), but when I went to the incomplete directory, the source was gone and had been deleted, only the few file that got unrared where in the associated complete directory, this should not happen and is a bug correct? I had this name length issue happen before and I was able to get to the original rars and unrar by hand, so it is as if the rar error got ignored.
Anyway to track this?

BTW, it would be very useful to be able to prepend FAILED_UNRAR to the name of the folder when the rar fails.

I also went into my ini file and noticed that the allow_64bit_tools was on, which is odd because I did not edit the ini directly and I am running a 32 bit version of windows... odd...., but may be this glag is just ignored if the build is 32bit?

I think you turned the unrar-check option off.
Otherwise you should have had a failed download, with the raw rar files still present.
Also, the "allow_64bit_tools" option means just that: allow 64bit tools if you have a 64bit OS.
So, it's set by default but only used on a 64bit OS.

That's the thing, I have not touched those flag in ages and they are all Checked except for "Post-Process Only Verified Jobs"
In the history list, the download is labeled as " Unpacking failed, an expected file was not unpacked "
but there is nothing left in the incomplete dir, and the few extracted files are in the complete dir.
please note that somehow, I have the impression that it happened before, but I assumed I had made a mistake.
The issue with long name pops up often enough that it would have been a huge issues if the original files where deleted every time.
What am I missing?
(I'll try the download again to see if I get same behavior)

thanks for confirmation for 64bit glag!

& Thx for quick answer and all!

You might want to use the "special" option to trim paths.
http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-special
It sets a limit to each path element, except of paths inside rar files.
Consider setting it to 32.

BTW: there's an error in release 0.6.9 which makes SABnzbd miss the fact that
unrar encounters an encrypted files (without it having the password).
This would give the same behavior as you describe.
This problem will be fixed on 0.6.10

So I realize the previous response wasn't for me, but I tried it anyway and changed the max folder length to 64 characters. At this point, I'm trying all settings to get Unrar working.

Any other suggestions? In case it was missed, I added a description of the exact issue above.

Thanks!

Check you settings again.
Does this history entry say what's happened? Click on it.

I hate it when people start hijacking threads for so-called "same issues", while it's not.
I don't have time to re-read every thread and find out who has which problem exactly.

Obviously you feel somehow obligated to respond. I guess since you're an administrator you feel it's your duty or something. I was not on here looking for YOU specifically to give me a response, I was just looking for general help from the community which is typically what forums are for.

That said, I've been nothing but appreciative in my previous responses for the help you've given thus far and have not done anything to flame you.

I apologize that my issue is not the exact one that originally started this topic, but it seemed to me it would be better to group these all under the same title: "Unrar issue..." instead of me creating yet another posting in the forum.

I'll move on and look for help elsewhere lest I annoy you by writing something on a public forum, on the internet which you could have just easily ignored.

No response would have been better than your rant. Have a nice day.
