Re: Free Newsservers
Hi Rascalli,
No need to read more carefully next time, as I read it carefully enough.
I saw the script there in your post (1st post / sticky).
But yesterday the script didn't work, that's all.
Today, I can see it is working fine .
Tanks for reply .
Cheers

Re: Free Newsservers
After some python, some jQuery and some CSS, here's an improved layout of the same newsserver checker:
http://www.appelboor.com/newsserver-checker/
It's the same content, but more readable and beautiful

Re: Free Newsservers
Nice Mod of the original script (or were you the author of the original script too?).
I just miss the rating: could be good, absolutely good, etc.
Cheers

Oh: you *like* the rating? It was just my trick to get the servers in order of attractiveness. Anyway: you think I should add the rating again?

Re: Free Newsservers
BTW: If you want to use the free IPv6 newsserver, you can check the IPv6-ness of your system via this iGoogle gadget:
http://www.google.com/ig/directory?type ... cker-2.xml
It will report your IPv6-ness in your iGoogle page http://www.google.com/ig
Windows Vista en Windows 7 users should have 'free' IPv6 connectivity, unless they have some strange, non-MS firewall/virusscanner blocking IPv6 ... :-(

Yep, I think the rating is a good feature in your script.sander wrote: Oh: you *like* the rating?
If I were you, I'd add it back to the new script.sander wrote: Anyway: you think I should add the rating again?

Re: Free Newsservers
Hi,
Anyone else getting timeout errors with reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl ?
Thanks

Re: Free Newsservers
It seems reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl is reachable from normal/native IPv6 addresses, but can be extremely slow / unreachable from miredo/teredo addreses (2001:0:). I don't know whether that's planned or unplanned.Bobby wrote: Hi,

Re: Free Newsservers
appelboor.com for short whiles before, but this time it has been down for at least a week or two.Asheme wrote: This is off-line now?
The whois for the address says it is registered until Aug 2011. So either he has had a major server failure or the site has been attacked by some nasty cretin.
Re: Free Newsservers
It works .. no problems here .. I think you need to be patient & try some times
Re: Free Newsservers
Yeah it is back up now. But that was almost two or three weeks where the whole domain wasn't online. So there was some major problem for a while there.rascalli wrote: It works .. no problems here .. I think you need to be patient & try some times
At least it is back up and running now. You don't realise how much you rely on some sites until they go down.
