Seems fairly OK to me:
With 6 connections to test.news-service.com to NNTPS (SSL) I get "Download speed: 553.32 KB/s", which is 1/2 of my line speed.
However, I get a lot of Warnings saying "missing" and "missing from all servers, discarding" on a 7 day old post. That's not very impressive.
Anyway, result is:
Stage Download
[Time-Taken]: 2 minutes 28 seconds
[Avg-Speed]: 535kB/s
Stage Par2
[PAR-INFO]: => No par2 sets
And the download is OK. Interesting.

After lowering to 5 again, I still get 0 connections ... :-(

OK, very impressive results with test.news-service.com:
I just downloaded a 51 days old 788 MB post (Ubuntu 8.04.1). I had set the number of connections to 2 (resulting in no failed connections), resulting speed 500 kB/s.
The download was successful!
Great!

Nevermind on eweka...realized SABNZBD was putting a username and password in where I didn't need one...

test.news-service.com is working flawlessly for me right now, SSL at port 563.
I never knew about this until today, will be using it in addition to my block-account for sure!

The one I have problem with is reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl it's not working since one month at least... and freebin-auth.readnews.com is down as well...

Can someone help a newbie. I tried all the free IPV4 servers listed here and none of them work. Anyone know one that works?
I have applied on
www.sixxs.net for IPV6 but no answer yet
thanks

Instead of Sixxs, you can use tspc. It's smallband compared to Sixxs, but ok as a start.
On Ubuntu Linux, activation is easy:
sudo apt-get install tspc
sudo tspc -vv
ping6 news.ipv6.eweka.nl
... and I have IPv6-connectity to news.ipv6.eweka.nl:
Code: Select all
sander@ubuntu810:~$ telnet news.ipv6.eweka.nl nntp
Trying 2001:4de0:1::1:1...
Connected to news.ipv6.eweka.nl.
Escape character is '^]'.
201 news.ipv6.eweka.nl NNRP Service Ready - [email protected] (no posting).
quit
205 Transferred 73 bytes in 0 articles, 0 groups. Disconnecting.
Connection closed by foreign host.
sander@ubuntu810:~$
For Windows, go here:
http://go6.net/4105/download.asp, and fill out anon.freenet6.net as server.
