I *did* try to help him. As I said, we were going back and forth in emails about him missing content he said he would be indexing. Hell, I even sent him about a dozen NZB's through email so he could see what I was talking about and I haven't heard anything since...not even a thank you for the heads up.

If he wants to be nice and refund my money, then I would appreciate it.
If not, well.....fool me once....

Maybe by this happening he'll do a better job for the rest of you guys that hang around. (shrug)
Or maybe in a few days you'll finally see that movie that all the other sites indexed a week ago.

Good luck.

And Bento, at least let us know if you're planning on refunding us or not. Don't just ignore us.
Totally agree in all aspects. I'm not going to go hungry if he doesn't give me a refund - wanted to avoid posting here, because I didn't want to take away from his project momentum, but I did so because I was completely ignored. :(

As someone who is running a moderately successful NZB site, it takes time.

My goal is to get sickbeard / couchpotato working 100%, before working on the site - something a lot of people dont seem to be doing :\ Most people have 5 years worth of NZBS to import - something that takes weeks to do. I've focussed solely on that, and I just finished importing TVHD/TVSD, and I'm working on filling the missing 4 months.

As a result, the WWW web interface looks a bit crappy, and like all other newznab sites, the movie / tv sorting is hit or miss on some episodes. Sickbeard / couchpotato work good though, every show I've added it's gotten every episode. Give bento some time, and I'm sure his will get there too.

He didn't take donations and run, like many people did - he's sticking around, trying to work on his site to perfect it. It's A LOT of hard work, so give it time :)

Just to emphasize, my desire for a refund had more to do with moving on to other solutions than any criticism of Bento or his hard work.

I'm going to try and get newznab running locally, so I guess I'll find out just how hard it is! :)

Ditto. Exactly.

I have my own newznab site running locally indexing about 23 groups right now to test, so I know the time that it takes. But, it's not hard work. It just takes patience to polish everything and get it exactly how I want it - but it's coming along nicely so far. I'm happy with it. Even made my own logo! :)

Glad to hear Tattoo that your desire for a refund is not related to any criticism on Bento's work. I too think that Bento is putting a lot of effort in his site and it is working like a charm. Again my experience is that he is very active and has one of the best NZB sites out there.

So Bento, if you want you can refund Tattoo and zerosquared on my expense, if possible. Let me know and I will donate their refunds to you. So you can proceed and make a success out of nzbfinder.

Jeez done with the 1000 word essays already. Just remember that this is not a business and that I don't have someone available 24x7. I read your e-mails before the weekend and would deal with them during the weekend. I do have a job and I can't reply to everything within minutes. Also I don't like you belittling my work here zerosquared, if you have a problem e-mail me and I will deal with it as soon as possible.

Altough it's not really common practice with donations I have refunded you both. Your donations had already been sent to my server provider though.

Also please remember that we've only been up and running for about 3 weeks now, improvements are made weekly. The last few days I was busy preparing the move to another storage engine for the database which means backfilling should go about 90 to 100 times faster so more groups can be indexed at as faster rate. If you need a group indexed use the contact form and I'll check if it's feasible for us to index. Some users already have done so.

Cheers,

Bento

Hi Roads,

We're re-indexing every 5 minutes which usually takes about 1-2 minutes. So i'd say about 10 minutes after stuff is available on my newsserver (Supernews for now). I think that's quick enough.

Hi Bento,

I registered to your indexer some time ago to evaluate and really like the responsiveness and layout of the site so far. The last couple of days it seemed though, that not many reports were added to the Movies (and especially the HD) section. Why is this? Are the relevant groups missing from the scans and will be added in the future? Are some releases not caught by the automatic scraper? Or am I missing something else?

Thanks for your hard work!

Hi Freeze,

I changed things to how they were yesterday evening. I was a bit too agressive trying to filter out and blacklisting non HD stuff and crappy posts which caused the indexer to ignore alot of proper posts. My newsserver (Supernews) might also be missing stuff, I might switch to NewsDemon soon if this turns out to be true.

Please keep your reports and feature requests coming, the fastest way for this is the contact form on the website or this board :)

Hey, I just came here to get your attention about a refund. It's the other guys who started in on us first. I felt the need to defend my request and did so. Plus, most of the posts are filled with quotes, like this one.
Bento wrote:Just remember that this is not a business and that I don't have someone available 24x7. I read your e-mails before the weekend and would deal with them during the weekend. I do have a job and I can't reply to everything within minutes.
Not minutes, sir. Days. We never said you were ignoring us here in the forums, but from emails that we had sent days earlier. And actually, yes - when you offer a service and have paying customers, ..that is what you do, right? ..you have started a business, and you can't just ignore them for a couple of days and then get back to them whenever you feel like it. It's not like replying back to your Aunt Sally when she says she likes your Facebook post.
Bento wrote:Also I don't like you belittling my work here zerosquared, if you have a problem e-mail me and I will deal with it as soon as possible.
Did no one read my entire posts? I did email you with the issue and then didn't hear back from you for days.
And as far as belittling, I basically just told you what Freeze just did, except that I personally went and manually scraped the a.b.teevee group to show you the dozen or so listings your indexer was missing - and even emailed them to you trying to help. At no point was I rude or belittled your work. You even just said yourself that you were being too aggressive about filtering and missing content...so I don't see how that's my fault or belittling to you for me giving you a heads-up about it.
Bento wrote:Altough it's not really common practice with donations I have refunded you both. Your donations had already been sent to my server provider though.
And I thank you for it. I don't appreciate you chastising me first and trying to 'be the bigger man' by making me the bad guy, but thank you nonetheless. I'm sure your fanboys here will make you a martyr for doing so.

You know, if you had just fired that off to me in an email a couple of days ago, I probably would've kept checking back to see your progress. Tattoo and I have both repeated ourselves several times here saying that we weren't necessarily knocking your skills, just that your site wasn't working as advertised and we had found other avenues to pursue.

Nowhere on your site does it mention that improvements are on a weekly basis, or that you were in the middle of moving to a different engine, or that since you have a job that this apparently is just a hobby for you. Maybe you should think about putting messages like that on your front page so that it's the first thing people see when they visit your site, instead of half a page of donating information.

I really do wish you the best of luck, as I previously stated. Just remember, when people give you money - whether it's a payment or a donation - they expect a little something in return, and that's respect and thankfulness.

Good luck, boys.

Bento, thx for your update. Ignore the previous post and carry on. He has his 10/20/50 (probably 10) dollars back which he now can invest in his own project.

Hey Bento, thanks for your hard work. I'm just signed up and donated and am trying to get some episodes of The Wire, but I constantly get this error in SickBeard:

Error loading NZBfinder URL: www.nzbfinder.ws/api?apikey=########### ... 030%2C5040

Sickbeard sometimes doesn't recognize NewzNab API's right away. You could try to wait a little or try to re-create the provider in SB. This worked for me and several others.

Thanks Bento - got my refund this morning! I do appreciate it and wish you the best success.

And to the Defenders of Bento - although I donated $50, I still haven't received a response to my original question (sent via e-mail) about why the "cart" function isn't working. That's okay, and this is absolutely NOT a criticism of either Bento or the site. The point for me was that I had donated a pretty significant amount of money and heard back nothing. There's nothing wrong with not being able to provide business-level support with a side project, but it's a tricky balance when you start accepting donations - some responsiveness is expected. The idea that because it is called a "donation" it equates to "zero obligation" is absurd and reflects no understanding of donations in the traditional charitable world or with kickstarter. Kickstarter is built on obligation! There is SOME obligation with ANY donation, and that obligation increases with the amount donated. It is up to the recipient of that donation to decide exactly what the obligation is, recognizing that their demonstrated responsibility to the donor will be be the measure by which future donations are made.

So anyone else thinking about donating to Bento because his solution is working for you...

...focus on the fact that he stepped up and gave refunds to zerosquared and I. He took his obligation seriously, and did what he could to make us happy - that's the important thing.
