run on synology NAS

Post by nimdjid »

Hi

First of all I wanna say I really appreciate any help as Im a complete beginner on NAS os (u call it linux or osX?..lol).
I have also never had a NAS before I got this synology DS411 3 days ago.

So I heard about sabnzbd and mainly wanted to use it because of the auto download and auto-unrar.
I first hear about some packages on some guys website zebulon. I download the sabnzbd from his repository and run it. He had some instructions on his site where it said that there will be a user created called SABnzbd that I should give full access to some folders with.
Well this user account didnt get created in my DSM.

So I google more and found what I think is the official SABnzbd website. Now there I was linked to some guys site called Mertymade. I add his link package in the DSM instead and download/install everything needed for the sabnzbd and still this user account was not created..

Anyone know what I should do?
Also please if anyone could link to some very beginner tutorial or guide that doesnt involve bunch of SSH/telnet stuff cus I dont understand anything of it...

Thanks a lot...

The SABnzbd authors do not create packages for NAS system,
So we cannot support those either.
We can answer some general questions, but cannot give detailed installation instructions.
Doesn't this mertymade guy run a forum?

You shouldn't need to create the account. I believe if you just set the permissions under 'folders' > 'completed downloads folder' to 777 in your sabnzbd, you should be fine. If you don't do this, SAB will download your files and put them where you want them but you won't have permissions to them. Only SAB will and well, you don't have a SAB account so the only thing you could do is delete and re-download with the right permissions.

Hope this helps.

I did now try to run it and download after I set folder permissions to 777 in sabnzbd.
But I cant download anything, it tells me: "download failed, Out of your server's retention? "

I have no clue of what to do with this.. there seems to be no support, no forum.. synologys forum isnt that good cus every post have to be confirmed by the mods and it seems very slow there..

Please if anyone mind to help me with this through skype and teamviewer (or whatever program to share screens) and I will pay $$ for the support. I realise this is out of reach for me to setup with so poor support and my knowledge of NAS, osX, usenet, sabnzbd = ZERO

thank you..

Did you setup proper servers in Config->Servers?
Did you try to run the Windows or OSX versions also, and did it work?

Go into your SAB configuration and under servers, make sure the credentials are correct. Don't forget to hit test server before leaving. If the test is successful, try downloading a different file. If not, then you've found your problem.

I found a new source for the softwares that seems to work.
http://www.synocommunity.com/ for those who has my problems..
It has a newer version of sabnzbd and seems to have more addons.

Now its just the rest left... and config sabnzbd together with some nzbsearch provider, config sickbeard and coachpotatoe and then int he end add SABmobile. And make sure as much as possible is automated...

Any advice for tutorials for rookies that works for synology OS?
