[0.7.4/5 WIN] Choking my speed

Not since long my downloads start great... nice max speed round 6.5 MBps, but then after a couple of minutes my speed goes down, between 10 and 500 KBps. My whole connection goes bad actually.
Only after resetting the computer AND connection it starts fresh again. Now I have absolutely no idea is it's related to the upgrade to 0.7.4 or that there is a problem with my ISP/Connection.
When I pause the downloads, the speeds stay the same: fast and furious. So as long as I dont use SABNZBD there is no problem. I also tried to cap the speed at 5 MBps which worked before with no problems.
Is there a way I can revert back to 0.7.3 to check if this problems still exists?

The logs do not show anything special, except timeouts, which you expect when your connection is bad.

Do you *only* use IPv6 servers? If not: can disable the IPv6 servers, and then test again?

What is the first part of your IPv6 address according to http://test-ipv6.com/ ?

ipv6 - 2001:470:1f15:####:####......
I tried with ipv6 disabled. Same result.

By the way, speed returns for a short while if you wait.......

Do you any "timed out" other than the IPv6 servers?

Are you using wifi or wired?

Ah, sorry, all servers timed out.
I'm wired.
Funny thing is, now that i have enabled all servers again, although not at max, its currently downloading at 3 mbps and stable for a while now.

Edit...: pooched again :(

Edit 2: after a restart of sabnzbd download resumes at 6.2 mbps......for a short while

Hi,

Having the exact same issue than DarkAllMan here. I got my Syno 112+ and Sabnzbd 0.7.3 running flawlessly since 2 months with decent download speed (1.5 - 2 Mbs/second, i'm wired) then a couple of days ago every download I start would be ok for the first 20 seconds I'd say , then speed slowly collapses to 0 and remaining time shows million-light-years countdown. So i upgraded to 0.7.4 hoping it would fix the issue, no luck. However when i click on play-pause button, it looks like the download is kinda "re-activated" for a short while, speed goes up for some seconds then falls down to 0 again. And i have the timeout error at the end (set on 60 seconds for me)

It can't be a retention / faulty NZB problem because i'm using NZBs posted a few days ago,and I have tried to download the same NZBs by using Unison on my mac (Mountain Lion 10.8 ), i'm getting full and steady speed (2Mbs) during the entire download lifetime. My ISP is Usenet btw, i have 4 connections and i use SSL on port 563 (I've tried to switch to regular port 119 but it had no effect).

Another thing i have noticed which started happening on Sab 0.7.4 is there are some glitches on the Splush skin e.g when i want to assign a Category to my download using the dropdown menu, it no longer works. Whatever i may click in the dropdown (TV show, movies etc...) the final value remains stuck on By Default. Funny thing is when i connect to Sab interface using my iPad (so Safari Mobile) or via my xperia (android - Chrome), I can assign categories without problems. My desktop browser is the latest Chrome version, I have tried with desktop Safari too but same issue. My refresh rate on the sab interface is set on 4 secs btw.

I haven't tried any other client on my NAS so far (have installed NZBGET package but i gave up during the configuration process which is a PITA compared to the simplicity of SAB's interface that i really don't want to leave.). Any help huuugely appreciated, i can run more tests or give more details if needed, but my problem seems to be strictly identical to darkallman's one.

Thanks in advance and take care ;D

What is the "6.2 mbps"? As we're talking about SAB's speed, I assume you mean "6.2 MB/s" (so capital M, capital B (=byte), right?

What does http://speedtest.net/ say?

My general advise in case of odd problems like these is to
do a queue repair from the Status page.
Before doing that check for orphaned items on the same Status page
and delete any you don't need any longer.

Quick update on this thread since it seems to be fixed for me now ! so this is what i've done :

1) Reboot of my Syno NAS (a DS112+)
2) Reboot of my internet router/box
3) Fresh re-install of Sabnzbd (0.7.4) on the NAS using SynoCommunity package
4) on Sabnzbd, changed the skin from Plush to Classic (black & white)
3) on Sabnzbd > Switches > checked randomize ip box
5) Reboot of sabnzbd package on the NAS to save the settings

Everything works great now. Actually i'm getting terrific dl speed, circa 2.5-3Mbs.... I never reached such speeds in the past even on my Unison client on my mac...very odd. And the speed does not collpase during download (or if it does, it never falls below 1.5Mbs). Changing the skin also fixed the glitch i had with the dropdown menus used to assign categories to queue items (still doesn't work under Splush skin).

Hope this might help ! thanks anyway for the support

4) Classic is lighter on CPU as long as you have a small queue and history.
With Plush the only explanation I can give is that the Javascript in Plush may have gone crazy
and is hammering SABnzbd like mad. Never seen it happen, but you never know.

3 (the second 3)
This is a very odd one.
Could try to put this one off again.
I'm interested to see if it makes a difference. It shouldn't for most Usenet providers.

I just downloaded 0.7.4 for Mountain Lion and am seeing speeds of about 843 B/s before it times out and ultimately fails the download.

Ok, i have just switched the "randomize ip server" option off, and this does not change anything !

Everything seems to be working fine now, however since my last post i've seen my speed doing the yo-yo again, falling dramatically ( 40 B/s), then going up to more acceptable levels ( 400-500Kb/s)...
My opinion on this is i never really paid attention to the "volatility" of the download speed previously, and today i keep my eyes on this figure because i have this issue that focuses all my attention.....but as i have read somewhere on this forum sabnzbd is more an automation tool rather than a speed download monitor. And it still does the job, ie downloading, checking, repairing and sorting. I think i'll just stop looking at this download speed as long as my files are properly downloaded.

Thanks for guidelines and advice !

So far I have no explanation for the volatility.
This certainly happens at speeds higher than the system can sustain.
However, any modern PC (say less than 4 years old) should be able to sustain above 5 MByte/sec.
(Well, if your line can do that).
I'm not sure about embedded devices, but anything with an Atom CPU should go above 2 MByte/sec,
as long as you have more than 512M of memory.
Keep in mind that SABnzbd reports speed in Bytes/sec, so your Bits/sec is about 9 times as high.

I've noticed the same issue. If I restart Sab my speed will max at 6.5MB/s. Given enough time (something over 15-20 minutes), it goes down to 0 MB/s and stays there no matter what I do unless I restart Sab.
8 GB Ram
Athlon x2 2.8Ghz
System is otherwise rock solid, absolutely no issues(and can certainly sustain speeds above 6MB/s)

When the problem happens "free -m" reports 7200 MB free, so I know I have enough ram left for sab to do as it pleases.

Completely baffled as to why this is happening. Nothing showing up in the logs.
