Par2 repair/recovery process makes my pc nearly unusable.

The title pretty much covers it. In case you have the memory of a fish (not an insult), I'm the guy that suggested ICE ECC support.
Since that's completely out of the question, would it be possible for you to further optimize the Par2 recovery/repair process so that it's extremely easy on the system for the duration of the repair/recovery?
For some odd reason, Par2 repair causes other programs to stall / become unresponsive to mouse clicks or keyboard presses.
This usually occurs during very large repairs/recoveries.
I've tried reducing the priority, affinity, etc.... nothing seems to help.
Is there any way to improve overall system performance during the repair/recovery process of very large files?
Thanks,
-me.
