Download speed xxx B/s ?

I am using version 0.7.9 and see on the screen in Status or Queue a download speed of say 193 B/s. I saw that also with other versions.

The numbers change quite a bit, but remain 3 digits, xxx B/s

Then at a certain time it changes to 1.0 MB/s or more (1.4 MB/s …. 1.6 MB/s).

I do not know what the xxx B/s means, it could not be 193 Bytes per second, because when I refresh the page I see about 1MB disappear from the queue every second or so.

When this download 4.2G is finished I see that it took 53 minutes and 22 seconds to download. If I say there is only 1 MB/s it should take about 71 minutes, so the average shown, 1.3 MB/s is correct.

Just don’t know why the M is missing (or the K)… or how to correct that.

Version 0.7.9
Install Windows Installer
Skin normal
Windows XP Sp3
Windows Firewall
IPV6 (don’t know what this is)
Reproducible, yes

Do you have "Check before download" (aka pre-download check) turned on? If so, that's the explanation: the check only takes a few bytes per article.

Hi Sander

Yes its checked. So SABnzbd checks to see (I guess) that a article is complete before attempting to download it. Sounds OK.
But you mean I should turn it off.

I cannot image that it takes so long to check that though, the B/s stay there for at least 5 or more minutes... But I will turn it off and see what happens! Thanks for the tip!

Ben

Certainly not! The pre-check is a great feature, so I would leave it on.

However, the reporting is a bit confusing. As your question proves. It would be better that instead of the low byte counter there would be a word "checking" in that text area.

So Sander I tried that, but keep getting the low speed (now in the xx's such as 50 B/s and 54 B/s and so forth). But when I look at the files being downloaded the remaining total lowers with at least 1 MB every second.
So it does not seem to be that, no change.

I have been looking now for 8 minutes, and its still giving me (what I think are Byte counts) in the 30 to 40 range, which is not correct. I had this with version 0.7.4 also, thats one reason I changed to 9, but no help.
Will try to look and see when it gives the correct download byte count.

OK, Sander, sorry I guess I did not see your last answer, so I am turning it back on.

Its been now 50 minutes, download is 2.6GB from 3.8GB. Showing now B/s in the 50-60 range.
No xx MB/s seen...

OK, then let's do this:

while the speed indicator is low, hover your mouse above the name of the download. What does it say? "Checking"? Or "missing articles: xyz"? ...

Right now the Download speed is : 538KB/s which is normal because I have a variable speed from the provider. When I hover the mouse over the names I don't get anything at all.
Also, all my downloads come through ok, no problems there.

The variable speed that I get from my provider is never xx B/s, he is my friend and had never seen that. I think it is only the display that is fault in some way, because when a article is finished SABnzbd reports a good download speed.

If you think only the *presentation* is incorrect, you can do this:

set SAB's logging to DEBUG, restart SABnzbd, do a full download, and then inspect sabnzbd.log: find bpsmeter. That is the speed in bits-per-second.

Below you will find the relevant from my sabnzbd.log: first while pre-check is running (so: very low bps), then the real download (high bps).

HTH

Code: Select all

$ cat sabnzbd.log | grep -i -e bpsmeter -e "Send to"
