what does history_limit stand for?

is it the max amount of downloaded collections stored in history?
Btw, theoretically, is there a global limit software wise?

This "special" was a temporary work-around for misbehaviour of SickBeard or CouchPotato (forgot which one it was).
It's only purpose it to limit the amount of data returned by certain API calls.
The History size has no defined upper limit.
